Seeing people riding bicycles in Cuba is a very common image, this facade takes us back to the 90's when the so-called special period arrived, there was no transportation, gasoline, food and the bicycle came to cost more than a car 😀 this was a consequence of the fall of the socialist camp of the Soviet Union.
Today the times have a different context and a different history, but the truth is that we still have many shortages and the bicycle is still the main means of transportation for the working population.
For many, owning a bicycle is both a luxury and a necessity because it is still the cheapest form of transportation, gasoline is very expensive and public transportation can be irregular.
For these reasons we see this scenario every day, where people of all ages and professions are transported by this means of transportation through the streets of the city.
