I was internalizing everything I read, and when I read about laughter and good memories, I stayed focused on translating. In my country, we are not used to the seasons, but for some years now, when it has been very hot, I have said that it must be summer in other countries, because in Venezuela it is also summer, only we don't have that culture. When I see the trees shed their leaves and are left bare, I say it is autumn; when the rains come, now without cold, I say it is winter; and when I see the plants bloom, I say it is spring. My daughter has been living in Chile for seven years, and she confirms what I have thought since I was young. We joke that even the cold has left Venezuela, as the rains do not alleviate the heat we are now experiencing. We blame the large black hole, deforestation, and even trash. We always want to find someone to blame when we see that we no longer have winter, even if it is only in our imagination. Venezuela has truly become one long summer. Ice cream melts faster, appliances break down because of the frequent power outages, and sudden drops in temperature no longer cool us down the same way. It's better to look at flowers and leave them in nurseries; it's sad to bring them home and see that they don't thrive no matter what you do. For them, it's always autumn, but it's not all bad. Our cat digs up the soil several times a day, making them feel the intense summer that accompanies us all year round. The coldest it feels is when it rains, but that's just a sign that the virus is coming, I don't even know what number it is now, that chill that gets into our bones and warns us that we'll have all the seasons together in our bodies for at least a month.
