Let me show you today some AWESOME SCENERY and one of the best locations in the WESTERN HIGHLANDS OF SCOTLAND 🏴 to spot RED DEER 🦌 in the WILD. These locations are inside of the KNOCKAN CRAG NATIONAL NATURE RESERVE along the A835 road ~ in Elphin, Lairg Scotland - #UK 🇬🇧
I drove that road many times while I was living on the #westcoast of Scotland a few years ago.
With this stunning location of this NATURE RESERVE in the HIGHLANDS of SCOTLAND I enter in this MONTH’S #WINTERCHALLENGE from @worldmappin. You can read all about it 👇🏻
Are you joining us? Do try, it is FUN! : Winter is coming 🥶🥶🥶 - and with it the Worldmappin Winter Challenge 🥳🥳 So let’s join in, in the #WINTERCHALLENGE ☃️❄️
Today’s photographic selection will be of 16 PHOTOGRAPHS
Date : 11 MARCH 2023
The Photographs in this post are taken with my #CANON R5 📸
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my #adventures on this #walk to 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes.
Location of this stunning #scenery, the nature reserve and the best spots to see #wild #deer along the A835 road we find on the following screenshots of Google Maps by the route drawn :
I thought it will be easier for you to find if I show it as a route. 😁
You see it is a route/ stretch of 15 minutes drive. There are 2 viewpoints, one at the Coigach Geopod pin on google maps and the second one at the pin with Knockan Crag National Nature reserve. These are 2 easy spots to park a car in the designated parking area. Driving further north at this little route you find the wild red deer on each side of the road. The best locations are mainly before the t-junction and you have to stop somewhere safely with the car just next to the road.
More information about this NATURE RESERVE you find in the following Wikipedia page: Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve
Their own website gives you even more details, have a look here: KNOCKAN CRAG!
In the website of Visit Scotland you also find more info and photos.
I do recommend reading / looking at above’s 👆🏻 websites, as this location and the landscape is rather special. 🤓
❄️ So let’s check out the STUNNING SCENERY now at our first stop. 😎
This is seen at the Coigach geopod pin.
Zooming out a bit further so you can enjoy the snow capped mountains 🏔️ and distinct landscape. Beautiful isn’t it? 🥰
Looking towards the left we see the parking place and an even more stunning landscape. A lake in the far right.
I show you a bit closer by now 😊
This is such a stunning nature reserve. One could wander for days around it. There are several trails to hike.
Driving along the A835 road north we cross a little river and next to the river behind a fence. I spot our first RED DEER 🦌 🦌 🦌
Do you see them?
🦌 We see 4 male red deer. They are called STAGS. Click here for more information about the Red deer 🦌
We stay very still and have a good look at them. They have seen us and will run away soon. As they are very shy ☺️
We go further, just a little bit and we spot some female deer. They are “hints” see the website 👆🏻 with more information.
I really love this photograph. She looked up right at me 🥰
Standing between the vegetation and all the snow.
A bit further closer to the lakes we see more deer 🦌 I show you them separate.
They seem to be standing with their backs to us haha 😂
Do look closely at the landscape, the islands in the lakes in the back.
Some deer gather closer to each other.
They seem not to disturbed by us.
Just going on with their days. Searching for food between the vegetation and snow ❄️
We see the lakes are frozen and covered with snow. It makes the deer stand out well. If the snow wouldn’t be there, they are truly hard to spot as they blend into the surroundings.
I zoom further out to show you also the mountains in the back, the deer in the foreground before the lakes. 🥰
Truly magical. The sky is just enough blue to make this day perfect to go along this little route to spot some red deer and take in the STUNNING SCENERY of this NATURE RESERVE.
If you ever find yourself in the HIGHLANDS of SCOTLAND, check this area out. So much to see and wonderful trails to hike. 🥰
