Fixing office laptops part 2 (Disaster)

This is where when everything went south...

Confidence can be a dangerous thing...

Especially when there was already 2 successful attempts and confidence can creep in a little too early, without reassessing the task that was slightly different from the previous 2...

Well, it turns out that cloning the "big boys" (sata hardisks) are a lot easier when the available tools worked, because those are the "usual" hardware.

Rushing to look for a "housing" for this bad boy

The Solid State chip-like storage is a totally different ballgame.

It has a totally different setting, and its tools are more expensive than the regular ones.

Furthermore, never try to fix things in a hurry, with an overly confident mistake that to things won't go south, WITHOUT BACKUP

Partly I didn't do a backup was because I didn't have enough floating storage drives that could handle that capacity

And with "racing against time" mentality seeing that my solid state drive's health was ZERO % I did the unthinkable, I cloned the dying SSD to the WRONG destination, my usual data drive, losing ALL if my work and additional programs that runs on my laptop such as the HIVE keychain and Ecency, with many other really useful crypto wallets.

Everything was gone, and my laptop went into an overdrive heating time bomb.

Over 48 hours were a nightmare for me. I tried to clone my existing dying C Drive to the new SSD Card, but after hours after hours attempt, I couldn't get the boot to clone over.

Devastated and with no more choices to make due to lack of equipment and damaged 2nd drive, I installed the whole operating system from scratch.
Mind you everyone loves a clean installation; however if you have a lot of data that was pre-set for extensive work and research, that's hardly a good thing, and that can be utterly devastating.

With time running out, I kept going, until the cover of my laptop broke because the screw was stuck and I couldn't get the 2nd damaged drive to be detected due to a broken connector (as it is close to 10 years old) I had to source for help.

By the grace of God, a Syrian immigrant opened IT shop was open that day, and with his frustration and pity seeing how I struggled to get a new (outdated) cable, he thought out of the box: attempting to cut off the broken piece and try to reinsert the connection, seeing that the cable was actually still quite long.

And to our (my) astonishment, it worked

Heaven in my heart rejoiced and I thanked him for his assistance and asked how much was the service.

"Since you are my neighbour" (we are staying in the same development community) "I won't charge you a dime"

But feeling unsettled because of his great help and effort, I insisted at least to pay the amount of the cable I intended to look for from online (which could take another week to arrive) He happily received the gift and asked me to help him to market his good works 😆

And so, I did, right here, showing you that every single human being in a confident (not war torn) environment still has that spark of light and love, because this is how God designed us at the first place.
(Well, until we fall short...)

Still trying to recover what was lost from the wipe out on the 2nd SATA HDD drive

Overall, my laptop is still working hard for me with "a new brain", and I have yet run the entire diagnostic to search for lost wiped out files. I have spent quite a bit, close to $100 USD to get the hardware and software done to fix my dying laptop, so now I am just glad and hope that my trusty "assistant" will serve alongside me another few more years.

Especially during this time, I also have upgraded its power source, which was already expanding and too dangerous and not able to charge anymore.

Until Then

Stay healthy, stay curious and learn new things, and stay happy!
