Saying goodbye to mom's favourite necklace

Honestly, mom thought she actually lost it!

Until we found it from our most unexpected find of the herbal metal box where the old coins were.

How it got there? Mom couldn't remember. But I remembered that it was her favourite gold chain necklace because she always wore it when I was little.

Until I realised that the chain actually is broken.

I did remember there was a time when she was doing marketing at her favorite wet market someone actually tried to snatch her gold chain but failed.

I wonder was this the reason that caused it to break? Because it was very very thin (the broken part)

I tried to ask the jeweller about if there is a chance to fix it, turns out that this is actually not the typical gold sold at Malaysian stores these days.

It is a 16 karat gold.

It is at least 40 years old, when during that period, there was no 18 karat gold / 916. Perhaps it was an influence from the post colonialism era where gold designs were more catered to western taste.

So we decided to depart with it, even though there were sentimental memories.

We cannot be too attached with material, especially when i hear Heaven's streets are made of gold haha.

Did we trade in with another gold accessory?

Actually, nope.

Because 2 weeks earlier my parents' phones decided to die, one of old age, and one was due to negligence and the phone was "baptised" till drown in the pool.

(It is a long story. Sigh)

Even though I managed to get with a 6 months installment plan (because it bought 2 phones at the same time) but I was scraping around to find where I can stretch my dollar.

And then we suddenly found this gold chain

As if God knew that we needed the extra stretch and He reminded us this "rainy day precious metal" that no longer can be of its usual service.

And to prove that God is so thoughtful, we found the chain and managed to let it go with a decent price on my parents 55th wedding anniversary.

I got them small slab of cakes, and the rest of the tiny balance I have left, I kept aside for emergency fund while it serves daily interest , until gold price is a bit lower and I can set another tiny nugget for yet another rainy day.

How about you?

What is your country's accessories gold purity content? Pure gold is not suitable because it is too soft and easily deformed or easy to break (?)
