A road trip and some random memories

Last week I went on a roadtrip to Cornwall, in the south west tip of England. It's normally a very nice part of England where many Brits go for holiday. Unfortunately there was a storm on the day we were due to leave home so we delayed our departure to the next day. The following few days weren't much better either and we hardly saw a ray of sunshine during our whole roadtrip. Overall, a pants roadtrip to be honest. Luckily I still have some good content that I will share... when I get round to it.

In the meantime, here's my Three Tune Tuesday for this week, albeit a day late.

Phil Collins - In the air tonight

The first commercial TV station in the UK was launched 70 years ago and during those decades there have been many iconic adverts. Initially most adverts take a direct approach, throwing the product straight in viewers face, often accompanied by a jingle or slogan. Then adverts became more sophisticated, sometimes the product itself wasn't the core focus and pop music was often used to help with this.

A great example dates back to 2007, when In the air tonight by Phil Collins was used in a Cadbury Gorilla advert. If you're familiar with this song you'll know that it starts off slow, full of emotion and anticipation, and then you have the iconic drum break. So where does the gorilla come into all this? All I can say, the advert is pure genius and remains one of the most iconic adverts on British TV. Btw, do you know what the product is being advertised?

Rose Royce - Wishing on a star

We were driving around in the windy weather last week, listening to the radio as you would when you're stuck inside a car. The great thing about this is that you end up listening to a lot of random songs. One that came up as a nice surprise, was one that I liked very much and hadn't listened to for a long time. I wanted to include it in my TTT this week, but guess what? I forgot what the song was!! I'll know it when I hear it, but if I can't find it I don't know what it is. Bit of a conundrum. So I turned to the GGG - Great Google God 😀 I remember roughly the date and time when it was played and looked online for the playlist for the radio station.

Lewis Capaldi - Something on the heaven

I don't often include new songs in my TTT, not sure why to be honest. A few days ago, I heard one on the radio and it sort of stuck with me. Lewis Capaldi is a brilliant artist, and I'm warming up to his latest song. It's a little sad but a beautiful way to remember someone we lost. If you have that person out there, I hope they can hear it when you do.
