My little garden grows fairly quick, and looking back at my last update over 3 weeks ago, so much has changed.
I have three jasmine plants and since I've added some strings to train them to climb against the back fence, they're racing along. Here are two of them.
The third one is buried amongst the tomato plants. Once the tomato plants are done I will plant two more jasmine plants so they will cover pretty much the entire fence.
It's quite sad that I have to keep my watercress tightly under wraps all the time and I can't see them grow very well. The soil has to be kept moist and they're packed very close together, if any pest start laying their eggs inside, that will be the end of my watercress. That said it's a nice surprise whenever I remove the net, and bam!! My watercress has bloomed! I've harvested them three times already and they keep on coming back.
My friend gave me a few tomato plants recently. The fruit has a pointy bottom, I'm not sure what variety they are. Am waiting for them to ripe to see what they taste like.
This lot is from my own tomato plants and more and more are gradually turning red every day. I don't normally like raw tomatoes, but I'm converted now... or maybe just with what I've grown myself, they always be taste a million times nicer.
The courgette is still going strong and I'm training it to grow upwards now to give it more air circulation and room to grow.
The chill plant is a late bloomer and has just started to flower. Actually I can't remember if this is a chilli or pepper plant, it's been so long! With a bit of luck, we shall find out soon.
My bitter gourd has continued to grow against all odds, and two more have appeared. The third one at the top of the plant is very tiny, like the size of my little finger. I need to cut that off so it doesn't draw energy away from these two.
I finally planted some bok choi again. My first batch earlier in the season all bolted very quick. Maybe because it was too hit. So far so good with this batch.
My chinese mustard have turned out quite well for my first attempt. They're a bit leggy and don't have much leaves but make a great soup. I didn't have enough netting to cover them properly and they turned out a bit cramped and wonky. Lesson learnt for next time.
And finally my lettuce has been a great success this year. Yes, I know they're easy to grow, that's why I managed to grow a lot. I think it's important to have some easy to grow veg in the garden, if all fails I'll at least have something to harvest and feel more accomplished. Plus, my abundance harvest meant I could give them away to friends and family, who all said how fresh and nice they were. Sharing makes me so happy.
The lettuce are nearing the end now. I'm going to save a couple for seeds, and will plant some more Chinese mustard here instead. My friend gave me some seedlings recently, and unlike mine, they're very leafy. I bought some more netting and will raise the frame height to give them more room to grow.
It's been so blissful sitting and relaxing in my garden today. What's not to love about life.
