Greetings!

woman-4685862_1280.jpg

From the pupils of my eyes to the cerebrum of my brain driving me insane is the signature of your beautiful skin Cascading flawlessly in melanic display Beyond the possibilities of immitations Da ame yaiya! From the bottom of my heart To the juices of my lips Tingling me sweetly is the melody of your name Flowing like River Niger from the depth of my soul – You are the music of my heart and the song on my lips.

Idoghõ, color is not what you are: You are melanin in mesmerizing varieties Shipped from the nooks of Africa to the crannies of the continents the world has become your home! Your truth may not be told beyond the narratives of Mr. Oyibo, Your roots may've been wrecked with the ships of servitude and scattered across the Atlantic; Your tongue may've been impaired by the accent of colonial speech; Your dignity may've been bullied by the negotiations of imperialism... But cascading gloriously, are your ravishing features that cannot be trampled beneath the wrangles of history.

"Idogho" is a word from the Ibibio language of Southern Nigeria. It means "not so" or "on the contrary" depending on the context of usage. This poem eulogises the beauty and authenticity of the "Black" people the world over who have their origin and roots in Africa. The poem celebrates the African identity and the black skin which is not just "color". Contrary to racial prejudice, the Black skin is a force that has permeated every part of the globe.

I am @livingword Thanks for reading.
