Driving around with a cracked side view mirror for over a year got me into trouble. The cracks got bigger, but I could still see, although things looked a bit distorted! I have no idea when or how the cracks started showing up.
Haha, perhaps my car's been in protest at the pending big move and cracking under the pressure๐
When my son visited in May and drove my car, I got a scolding: "Mom, it's irresponsible driving like this, your side view mirror is cracked, one can't see properly!" Like a naughty child, I sheepishly told him I rarely travel in heavy traffic and I do manage, but promised to have it repaired asap.
That was three months ago! I kept postponing replacing the mirror because there were way too many other things to attend to with the move: cancelling service providers, address changes, and dozens of changes regarding the B&B. Importantly, ensuring debit orders are cancelled! A girl needs to break away and have a little fun as well, right? I'll tell you all about that next time!
I changed insurance companies after selling my home. Downsizing and no need for business insurance meant my premium dropped by 66%, even though it is with one of our best insurance companies. If there is such a thing!
My car had to go for an inspection if I wanted full coverage, and the eager sales rep pointed me to two companies that do this.
The mirror had to be fixed before I went, or so I thought!
I made a couple of calls - the auto glass centre could not replace the mirror. I could go to a Renault agent and buy the mirror only, at quite a cost! The second option was going to a motor spares centre. They advised that they sell the entire housing with the mirror and that it would cost less than half. A panel beater could fit it, and it would still cost less. Ummm, not so sure about that, but finding a Renault agent that had the mirror in stock would be another mission. My car is old!
The colour of the housing was wrong, and the original housing was in perfect condition. My two brothers conferred. The mirror simply clipped in. The new mirror was clipped out of its holder and into my original side-view mirror holder. The job was done in about five minutes. Had I taken it to a panel beater, as suggested by the parts centre, the mirror replacement cost would have tripled, if not more.
My side-view mirror was fixed, so I set off for the inspection centre, thinking I knew how to get there. I live in a new town, but am familiar with some of the shopping centres - there are many. I did not use my navigator, and I drove right past them. Doing a U-turn on a busy road is no fun. I finally arrived, but was told to come back in half an hour as they had issues with the Insurance App and were busy updating it. Not what I wanted to hear, but there was a coffee kiosk close by. It was nearing lunchtime, so coffee and a giant cookie made up for the wait!
Inspection was a simple procedure, and I sighed in relief that one, or rather two, more hurdles were out of the way! I'm slowly learning that a woman alone is easy prey, but at least I am covered for now!
