Short Story 1 - Part 1

January 20th, 1986, 13-year-old 'Yui' and her 9-year-old brother 'Ren' were helping their mother 'Emiko' clean the house and prepare dinner for a huge family reunion in the manor because their dad 'Haruki' just came back to Japan from a work-related trip to Russia. It was 8:35 P.M when all the people came in, they had a good time eating the delicious Turkey 'Emiko' cooked, the tasty cake 'Yui' and 'Ren' made together, and the fancy chocolate cookies 'Haruki' brought from Russia. They also enjoyed chatting about the dad's trip to Russia. Everything was going well, until something nobody expected happened. Knock Knock, 'Ren' opened the door, "We're here for Hikaru, is here right now?" Said one of the cops. "Hikaru? No, we don't have a Hikaru here sir." Responded the little boy. "Get out the way little boy we just saw him enter the house" Replied the cop. Then the cop pushed the little boy. The boy knew something was off, so he screamed until 'Haruki' the dad and 'Takashi' the uncle came to see what was going on. When the cops saw the uncle, they started accusing him of escaping prison, because they had mistaken him for someone else who actually escaped prison. And of course, 'Takashi' didn't budge and tried to go into the manor and escape from the backdoor, but the cops were fast, and they both kept throwing things at each other, until the dad 'Haruki' decided to join the fight until he spotted a glass bottle, he didn't think twice before throwing it at the cops, in fact he didn't even know what was in the bottle. He tried to throw it at the cop, but he missed, that glass bottle had window cleaner in it which contained flammable substances like alcohol. Unfortunately, the glass landed inside the fireplace. 15 seconds later, the whole manor was on fire, and they still kept fighting inside the burning manor. And when they finally decided to come out of the manor, it was too late, the whole wooden manor was already starting to collapse. When the cops saw this, they immediately called for backup. When the members of the family who were close to the doors heard this, they immediately ran out of the manor and headed to the forest near the manor, but unfortunately, not all of them managed to get out of the manor before it collapsed. There were only 5 family members who have managed to survive the fire and run into the forest. They found a small, abandoned camp somewhere in the forest after 10 minutes of trying to lose the police. "So, what now? We all know that there's no food, water, shelter or even something that can keep us warm in this snowstorm like a fire or something." Said the uncle with disappointed in his voice. "Don't worry uncle, me and Yui managed to grab a little food and like 3 bottles of water, it's not a lot, but it's better than nothing. And we also got some matches since we knew we were going to hide in the forest." Replied Ren. "Good job Ren, I knew you would do something smart." Said the uncle in a proud tone. Then, they slept in the abandoned camp, it had some sleeping bags.
