Male Ocean Healer - Old West

I began this piece with a loose sketch, allowing the basic shapes of the character to emerge naturally. I focused on his pose and expression, trying to capture the contrast between his stained hands and his calm demeanor. This stage was essential to establish the storytelling behind the design. Once I had the sketch, I moved to the line art, refining the details and sharpening the silhouette. Here I paid special attention to the tattered edges of his clothing and the distinct shape of his hair. Clean lines helped bring clarity and strength to the figure. Coloring was the next stage, and I chose a palette that balanced warm earthy tones with the coolness of his blue hair. This combination highlighted both the western setting and his otherworldly presence. Each color was chosen to enhance the mood of dusk and memory. Then came the shadows, which added depth and drama to the piece. I worked carefully to show how the light of the sunset cast across his face and robes, emphasizing the torn fabric and the solemnity in his eyes. Shadows gave weight and realism to the illustration. Highlights followed, breathing life into the image. The gleam on his hair, the subtle shine on the cross, and the reflection on his hands created a sense of movement and intensity. This step added contrast and guided the viewer’s gaze. Finally, I completed the background. The church, gravestones, and orange sky all tied the character to his world. The western landscape was essential to place him in context, adding layers to his story and reinforcing the atmosphere of melancholy and resilience. > Comencé esta obra con un boceto suelto, dejando que las formas básicas del personaje surgieran de manera natural. Me concentré en su pose y expresión, tratando de capturar el contraste entre sus manos manchadas y su semblante sereno. Esta etapa fue esencial para establecer la narrativa detrás del diseño. > Una vez terminado el boceto, pasé al delineado, afinando los detalles y definiendo la silueta. Aquí presté especial atención a los bordes desgarrados de la sotana y a la forma particular de su cabello. Las líneas limpias ayudaron a dar claridad y fuerza a la figura. > El siguiente paso fue el coloreado, y elegí una paleta que equilibrara los tonos cálidos de la tierra con la frialdad de su cabello azul. Esta combinación resaltó tanto el escenario del oeste como su presencia casi de otro mundo. Cada color fue escogido para realzar la atmósfera del ocaso y la memoria. > Después llegaron las sombras, que añadieron profundidad y dramatismo a la pieza. Trabajé con cuidado para mostrar cómo la luz del atardecer se proyectaba sobre su rostro y su vestimenta, acentuando la tela desgarrada y la solemnidad de su mirada. Las sombras dieron peso y realismo a la ilustración. > Los brillos siguieron, insuflando vida a la imagen. El destello en su cabello, el brillo sutil en la cruz y el reflejo en sus manos crearon una sensación de movimiento e intensidad. Este paso añadió contraste y guió la mirada del espectador. > Finalmente, completé el fondo. La iglesia, las lápidas y el cielo anaranjado conectaron al personaje con su mundo. The ex-priest healer embodies a blend of faith, pain, and redemption, and I loved exploring those themes through my art.
