Hello everyone! I’m Lorentm, a digital artist passionate about exploring emotions and storytelling through monochromatic art. Today, I’m very excited to present my latest illustration for *Zingtober*, the special Inktober event organized by @holozing.

This piece represents Day 19 of the challenge, with the prompt “Arctic.” For this drawing, I chose to depict the female version of the Ocean Healer — a character from @holozing who has always inspired me with her strength and serenity. I imagined her facing the icy winds of the north, determined to move forward no matter how harsh the storm.

Para este dibujo decidí representar a la versión femenina de la Ocean Healer, un personaje de @holozing que siempre me ha inspirado por su fuerza y serenidad. La imaginé enfrentando los vientos helados del norte, decidida a avanzar sin importar lo dura que fuera la tormenta.
Working on this piece made me feel as if I were traveling with her through the snow — feeling the cold, hearing the wind, and sharing her resolve. Even though it’s a monochromatic piece, I aimed to convey warmth and emotion through contrast and lighting.
> Trabajar en esta obra me hizo sentir como si viajara con ella a través de la nieve, sintiendo el frío, escuchando el viento y compartiendo su determinación. Aunque es una pieza monocromática, quise transmitir calidez y emoción mediante el contraste y la iluminación.

The female Ocean Healer appears dressed for an Arctic expedition. She wears a thick coat lined with fur along the hood, cuffs, and hem — a practical yet elegant outfit for surviving the cold. On her chest, she carries a distinctive emblem that represents her connection to the healing powers of the ocean, a symbol of her role as a guardian of balance.
> La Ocean Healer femenina aparece vestida para una expedición ártica. Lleva un abrigo grueso con forro de piel en la capucha, los puños y el borde inferior, un atuendo práctico pero elegante para sobrevivir al frío. En su pecho lleva un emblema distintivo que representa su conexión con los poderes curativos del océano, un símbolo de su papel como guardiana del equilibrio.
Her expression is determined, her brows furrowed against the biting wind. With both hands gripping her poles, she pushes forward through the blizzard. Her backpack, tightly secured, suggests that she’s been traveling for a long time — a wanderer guided by duty and hope.
> Su expresión es decidida, con las cejas fruncidas ante el viento cortante. Con ambas manos sostiene con firmeza los bastones mientras avanza a través de la ventisca. Su mochila, bien asegurada, sugiere que lleva un largo viaje a cuestas, una viajera guiada por el deber y la esperanza.
The background is filled with swirling snow and streaks of light, creating a sense of motion and struggle. The storm seems alive, wrapping around her, yet unable to stop her. Even in monochrome, the contrasts between light and shadow evoke the intensity of her journey — a story told entirely in shades of gray.

The process began with the sketch, where I explored the composition and energy of the pose. I wanted to capture motion and determination, so I gave her a forward-leaning stance, as if she were braving the wind step by step.
> El proceso comenzó con el boceto, donde exploré la composición y la energía de la pose. Quise capturar movimiento y determinación, por eso le di una postura inclinada hacia adelante, como si avanzara contra el viento paso a paso.
Once I was satisfied with the pose, I moved on to the lineart. Here, I focused on clean and expressive lines, emphasizing the folds of her clothing, the fur texture, and the dynamic strands of her hair. The linework gave structure and personality to the figure.
> Una vez que estuve satisfecha con la pose, pasé al delineado. En esta etapa me concentré en líneas limpias y expresivas, destacando los pliegues de su ropa, la textura del abrigo y los mechones de cabello al viento. El delineado aportó estructura y personalidad a la figura.
For the coloring stage, I used a monochromatic palette — shades of gray to evoke the cold, silent vastness of the Arctic. Working in grayscale allowed me to play with tonal depth, giving the image both atmosphere and emotion.
> En la etapa de coloreado utilicé una paleta monocromática, con distintos tonos de gris para evocar la fría y silenciosa inmensidad del Ártico. Trabajar en escala de grises me permitió jugar con la profundidad tonal, aportando atmósfera y emoción a la imagen.
The shading stage was where the piece truly came to life. I deepened the shadows in her coat, under her hood, and around her face to bring volume and contrast. The darker tones helped define the storm’s intensity and her resistance against it.
> En la etapa de sombreado fue donde la pieza realmente cobró vida. Profundicé las sombras en su abrigo, bajo la capucha y alrededor del rostro para dar volumen y contraste. Los tonos oscuros ayudaron a definir la intensidad de la tormenta y su resistencia ante ella.
Adding highlights was my favorite part — the light reflecting on the snow, her coat, and her determined eyes brought the emotion I was aiming for. Even in a limited palette, those luminous accents gave warmth and movement to the composition.
> Añadir los brillos fue mi parte favorita: la luz reflejándose en la nieve, en su abrigo y en sus ojos decididos aportó la emoción que buscaba. Incluso con una paleta limitada, esos acentos luminosos dieron calidez y movimiento a la composición.
Finally, I created the background, blending snowy textures and diagonal strokes to simulate wind and snow in motion. The storm became an essential element of the scene, not just a setting — but a force she must overcome.

This illustration was a very emotional experience for me. Even though it’s monochromatic, it carries a lot of feeling and narrative. I wanted to express perseverance — the kind of strength that pushes you forward even when everything around you feels frozen.
> Esta ilustración fue una experiencia muy emotiva para mí. Aunque es monocromática, contiene mucha sensación y narrativa. Quise expresar la perseverancia, esa fuerza que te impulsa a seguir adelante incluso cuando todo a tu alrededor parece estar congelado.
Participating in *Zingtober* has been such an inspiring challenge. It has allowed me to experiment with mood, composition, and storytelling in ways I hadn’t before. Every prompt feels like a new adventure, and “Arctic” reminded me how much emotion can exist even in simplicity.
