Hallo liebe Community, nun, da ich meine Schottlandreise abgearbeitet habe, ist es an der Zeit Euch von meinem Sommerurlaub in Südfrankreich zu berichten. Auch eine schöne Reise, auf die ich Euch gerne in den nächsten Tagen mitnehmen möchte.
Spannend daran war schon mal, dass wir zum ersten Mal mit dem E-Auto in Urlaub gefahren sind und das dann gleich für eine Strecke von etwas über 1.000 Kilometer. Aber was soll ich sagen, der Tesla bestätigte den tollen Eindruck den ich in den letzten Monaten von ihm bekommen habe zu 100%. Reichweite auf der Autobahn zwischen 350 bis 400 Kilometer und Tankstops, die in 25 Minuten erledigt waren. Die Anreise war also völlig entspannt. Das lag aber auch daran, dass wir auf der Strecke eine Übernachtung in Lyon eingeplant hatten. Hier waren wir bisher noch nie gewesen und wollten das mit einer Stadterkundung verbinden. Als wir um ca. 14:00 Uhr im Hotel ankamen, hatten wir also noch viel vom Tag übrig uns das schöne Lyon anzusehen.
Unser erster Weg führte uns die bekannten Markthallen von Lyon, die nach dem französischen Sternekoch Paul Bocuse benannt sind. Von außen eher unscheinbar aber von innen vollgestopft mit Leckereien. Von Fleisch, Wurst, Käse, Wein über Baguette bis hin zu schmackhaften Desserts und Süssigkeiten. Auch orientalische und arabische Spezialitäten waren vertreten und wir ließen uns die ein oder andere Köstlichkeit schmecken.
Mit dem Uber fuhren wir danach über die Saone an das andere Ende der Innenstadt auf den Hügel Fourvière fahren, wo das Wahrzeichen der Stadt, die Basilika Notre-Dame de Fourvière liegt. Eine atemberaubend schöne Kirche mit Blick über die gesamte Stadt. Sie wurde von 1872 bis 1896 gebaut und vereint byzantinische, romanische und neugotische Elemente. Sie ist 86 Meter lang, 35 Meter breit und verfügt über vier 48 Meter hohe Türme, die die Kardinaltugenden symbolisieren: Klugheit, Mäßigung, Tapferkeit und Gerechtigkeit. Im Inneren wurden wir fast erschlagen von der Pracht aus Marmor und Gold. Ja, die Franzosen wußten schon immer wie man prächtig baut!
Nach einigen besinnlichen Momenten genossen wir noch die Aussicht auf die Stadt und machten uns dann an den Abstieg in Richtung Altstadt, welcher durch einen schönen Park immer abwärts führte. Und anschließend über unzählige Treppen in engen Häuserschluchten, das hatte schon was. Unten angekommen waren wir direkt vor der Kathedrale von Lyon, offiziell bekannt als Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste et Saint-Étienne. Diese ist deutlich älter als Notre Dame de Lyon und im gotischen Stil erbaut. Von innen bei weitem nicht so prachtvoll aber auch sehenswert. Viel beeindruckender war aber die Straßensängerin davor, die "I will always love you" von Whitney Houston fast besser sang als das Original.
Über die Brücke gelangten wir dann auf den Marktplatz und tranken einen leckeren Cocktail, weil eben Happy Hour war. Beim Schlendern durch die Gassen und über Plätze bei der untergehenden Sonne wurde uns immer mehr klar, dass Lyon wirklich eine traumhafte Stadt ist und sicher auch alleine eine Reise wert, nicht nur als Zwischenstop auf der Durchreise. Als wir wieder im Hotel waren und früh schlafen gingen, nahmen wir uns fest vor irgendwann wieder zu kommen und Lyon ausgiebiger zu erkunden. Aber für jetzt sollte es das gewesen sein, denn am nächsten Morgen mussten wir weiter Richtung Côte d’Azur, dem eigentlichen Ziel unserer Reise.

Hello dear community, Now that I've finished my trip to Scotland, it's time to tell you about my summer vacation in the South of France. It was also a wonderful trip, and one I'd love to share with you in the next few days.
What was exciting about it was that we went on vacation with an electric car for the first time, and for a distance of just over 1,000 kilometers. But what can I say? The Tesla 100% confirmed the great impression I've had of it over the past few months. A range on the highway of between 350 and 400 kilometers, and refueling stops that were completed in 25 minutes. So the journey was completely relaxing. This was also due to the fact that we had planned an overnight stay in Lyon along the way. We had never been there before and wanted to combine it with exploring the city. When we arrived at the hotel at around 2:00 p.m., we still had plenty of the day left to explore beautiful Lyon.
Our first stop took us to the famous Lyon market halls, named after the French Michelin-starred chef Paul Bocuse. Rather unassuming from the outside, they were packed with delicacies inside, from meat, sausage, cheese, wine, and baguettes to delicious desserts and sweets. Middle Eastern and Arabic specialties were also represented, and we indulged in a few delicacies.
We then took an Uber across the Saône River to the other end of the city center, up Fourvière Hill, where the city's landmark, the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, stands. A breathtakingly beautiful church with views over the entire city, it was built between 1872 and 1896 and combines Byzantine, Romanesque, and Neo-Gothic elements. It is 86 meters long, 35 meters wide, and has four 48-meter-high towers symbolizing the cardinal virtues: prudence, temperance, fortitude, and justice. Inside, we were almost overwhelmed by the splendor of marble and gold. Yes, the French have always known how to build magnificently!
After a few contemplative moments, we enjoyed the view of the city and then began the descent toward the old town, which led downwards through a beautiful park. And then down countless stairs into narrow canyons of buildings—that was quite something. At the bottom, we found ourselves directly in front of Lyon Cathedral, officially known as the Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste et Saint-Étienne. This is significantly older than Notre Dame de Lyon and built in the Gothic style. It's not nearly as magnificent inside, but still worth seeing. Much more impressive, however, was the street singer in front of it, who sang "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston almost better than the original.
We then crossed the bridge to the market square and had a delicious cocktail, as it was happy hour. Strolling through the alleys and across squares as the sun set, it became increasingly clear to us that Lyon is truly a beautiful city and certainly worth a visit in its own right, not just as a stopover on the way through. When we returned to the hotel and went to bed early, we firmly resolved to return sometime and explore Lyon more thoroughly. But that was it for now, because the next morning we had to continue on towards the Côte d'Azur, the actual destination of our trip.
