After watching Furiosa A Mad Max Saga I have to say that I was left thinking about some things that do not make me say at once that I liked it, the truth is that George Miller tried to do something ambitious but I do not know if he managed to hit the nail on the head completely. The film starts with a fascinating story about the little Furiosa who lives in the green place and suddenly is kidnapped by some crazy people on motorcycles, so far so good because the environment is very well developed, but when it comes time to see Anya Taylor Joy replacing the girl you realize that something does not quite fit. Miller tries to connect this prequel with Fury Road but it seemed to me as if it was a different movie edited to fit in the same universe, that pass between the two Furies never ends up convincing and that's a big problem for a movie that is supposed to be about the character's growth. I thought Chris Hemsworth looks unrecognizable with that fake nose and beard, at first I thought it was a weird decision but then you understand that Dementus needed to look different than Thor, his acting is brutal and ruthless but at times it's like too much theater for the realistic world of Mad Max. The design is very good they manage to recreate that post apocalyptic world in an authentic way, from the vehicles to the citadels everything looks real but the movie is like longer than necessary and there are parts where the action stops too much to explain things that didn't need explanation, it also lacks the visceral force that Fury Road had.

Después de ver Furiosa A Mad Max Saga tengo que decir que me quedé pensando en iertas cosas que no me hacen decir de una vez que si me gustó, la verdad es que George Miller intentó hacer algo ambicioso pero no sé si logró dar en el clavo completamente. La película arranca con una historia fascinante sobre la pequeña Furiosa que vive en el lugar verde y de repente la secuestran unos locos en motos, hasta ahí todo bien porque el ambiente está muy bien desarrollado, pero cuando llega el momento de ver a Anya Taylor Joy reemplazando a la niña uno se da cuenta que algo no cuadra del todo. Miller trata de conectar esta precuela con Fury Road pero me pareció como si fuera una película diferente editada para encajar en el mismo universo, ese pase entre las dos Furiosas nunca termina de convencer y eso es un problema grande para una película que se supone es sobre el crecimiento del personaje. Me pareció que Chris Hemsworth está irreconocible con esa nariz falsa y esa barba, al principio pensé que era una decisión rara pero después entiendes que Dementus necesitaba verse diferente a Thor, su actuación es brutal y despiadada pero a veces es como miucho teatro para el mundo realista de Mad Max. El diseño está muy bien logran recrear ese mundo post apocalíptico de manera auténtica, desde los vehículos hasta las ciudadelas todo se sve real pero la película es como más larga de lo necesario y hay partes donde la acción se detiene demasiado para explicar cosas que no necesitaban explicación, también le falta la fuerza visceral que tenía Fury Road.

Something I noticed with Furiosa is that it wants to be a revenge story, an explanatory prequel or pure action, all at the same time I think Miller tried to do all three things at the same time and the result was somewhat scattered. The first hour is okay but then it gets very slow, more when Furiosa works as a mechanic in the citadel and has to hide that she is a woman, that part was filler. When the action part finally arrives with the war trucks and chases it gets a lot better, that convoy scene attacking the truck was very well done and reminded me of the specialness of the Mad Max movies but then it slows down again with more backstory that frankly wasn't needed. Tom Burke is Furiosa's crush and truth be told he does his best but his character is dem basic that I never managed to connect emotionally with him, his death was more like a script obligation than a truly tragic moment. The relationship between them develops too fast even for how Mad Max world is, where people fall in love and die in the same day, here they needed more time for me to feel something for that romance. Anya Taylor Joy also does what she can but the script doesn't give her enough emotional material to work with and it shows in every scene.

Algo que me di cuenta con Furiosa es que quiere ser una historia de venganza, una precuela explicativa o acción pura, todo a la vez creo que Miller trató de hacer las tres cosas al mismo tiempo y el resultado fue algo disperso. La primera hora está bien pero después se pone muy lenta, más cuando Furiosa trabaja como mecánica en la ciudadela y tiene que esconder que es mujer, esa parte fue de relleno. Cuando finalmente llega la parte de acción con los camiones de guerra y las persecuciones la cosa mejora bastante, esa escena del convoy atacando el camión estuvo muy bien hecha y me recordó lo especial de las películas de Mad Max pero después vuelve a bajar el ritmo con más historia de trasfondo que francamente no hacía falta. Tom Burke es el enamorado de Furiosa y la verdad hace lo que puede pero su personaje es dem básico que nunca logré conectar emocionalmente con él, su muerte fue más como una obligación del guión que como un momento realmente trágico. La relación entre ellos se desarrolla demasiado rápido incluso para como es el mundo Mad Max, donde la gente se enamora y muere en el mismo día, aquí necesitaban más tiempo para que sentir algo por ese romance. Anya Taylor Joy también hace lo que puede pero el guión no le da suficiente material emocional para trabajar y eso se nota en cada escena.

What I did like was the exploration of the Mad Max world, seeing Gas Town and Bullet Farm was amazing, especially the sequence where Dementus takes control of Gas Town using an elaborate plan that involves faking his own death. The towns look like real places where people live and fight to survive and are not just settings for fights, the connection to Fury Road works well at times, more so when we see how Furiosa lost her arm and why she developed that thirst for revenge that comes out in the original film, but at times the references are a bit forced as if Miller was making a crossing one off a list of things fans wanted to see. The ending where Furiosa plants the peach pit in Dementus' body is brutal but at the same time a bit cheesy for the serious tone the film came with up to that point. The special effects are fine for the most part but there are moments where you can tell they used more CGI than necessary, especially in the scenes of the vehicles flying through the air that look less convincing than the practical madness of Fury Road.

Lo que si me gustó fue la exploración del mundo de Mad Max, ver Gas Town y Bullet Farm fue increíble, especialmente la secuencia donde Dementus toma control de Gas Town usando un plan elaborado que involucra fingir su propia muerte. Las ciudadelas parecen lugares reales donde la gente vive y lucha por sobrevivir y no son solo escenarios para peleas, la conexión con Fury Road funciona bien en algunos momentos, más cuando vemos cómo Furiosa perdió el brazo y por qué desarrolló esa sed de venganza que sale en la película original, pero a veces las referencias son algo forzadas como si Miller estuviera haciendo una tachando de una lista de cosas que los fans querían ver. El final donde Furiosa planta el hueso de durazno en el cuerpo de Dementus es brutal pero a la vez algo cursi para el tono serio con el que venía la película hasta ese punto. Los efectos especiales están bien la mayor parte del tiempo pero hay momentos donde se nota que usaron más CGI del necesario, sobretodo en las escenas de los vehiculos volando por el aire que se ven menos convincentes que las locuras prácticas de Fury Road.

The actors playing the War Boys and the various warlords also do what they can but none have enough screen time to create memorable characters. The film is divided into chapters as if it were an epic but in reality it's more like a series of pasted together episodes each section has its own tone and pace that doesn't always connect well with what comes before or after. Miller clearly wanted to do something different than Fury Road but sometimes different doesn't mean better and more so when what worked in the previous film was perfect as it was. The violence is well handled but never reaches those moments of pure madness that made Fury Road so exciting, here everything is more controlled and predictable. The themes of survival and revenge are present but they are not very deep they are played over the top and don't risk to really explore what they mean in this destroyed world. The visuals are okay but I think it didn't quite reach what was shown in Fury Road, the desert shots are nice but they lack that sense of vastness that made you feel lost along with the characters.

Los actores que interpretan a los War Boys y los diferentes señores de la guerra también hacen lo que pueden pero ninguno tiene suficiente tiempo en pantalla para crear personajes memorables. La película está dividida en capítulos como si fuera una épica pero en realidad es más como una serie de episodios pegados cada sección tiene su propio tono y ritmo que no siempre conecta bien con lo que viene antes o después. Miller claramente quería hacer algo diferente a Fury Road pero a veces diferente no significa mejor y más cuando lo que funcionó en la película anterior era perfecto como estaba. La violencia está bien manejada pero nunca alcanza esos momentos de pura locura que hacían que Fury Road fuera tan emocionante, aquí todo es más controlado y predecible. Los temas sobre supervivencia y venganza están presentes pero no son muy profundos se tocan por encima y no se arriesgan a explorar realmente qué significan en este mundo destruido. La parte visual está bien pero creo que no logró llegar a lo qe se mostró en Fury Road, las tomas del desierto son bonitas pero les falta esa sensación de inmensidad que hacía que te sintieras perdido junto con los personajes.

Furiosa is a movie that you can watch and enjoy but it's not going to stay in my memory like Fury Road did, Miller manages to create a standard prequel that expands the world of Mad Max without ruining what already worked but also doesn't add anything essential that we couldn't have imagined ourselves. My score is 7/10, I think the film suffers from the impossible expectations its predecessor created, anything that came after was going to feel like a disappointment compared to that action masterpiece. Anya Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth are good in their acrobatics but their characters never reach the emotional depth they needed to really matter to their fates, they remain well done but predictable. It lasts two and a half hours and I felt it much longer especially in the second part, it could have easily been cut thirty minutes without losing anything important of the story. The action sequences are well done but none reach the level of pure genius that reached the desert chase of Fury Road, If you are a fan of Mad Max I recommend you see it but do not expect to be completely satisfied, I think it could have been much better if Miller had taken more risks instead of playing it so safe.

Furiosa es una película que se puede ver y disfrutar pero que no va a quedar en mi memoria como lo hizo Fury Road, Miller logra crear una precuela estandar que amplía el mundo de Mad Max sin arruinar lo que ya funcionaba pero tampoco añade nada esencial que no pudieramos haber imaginado nosotros mismos. Mi puntuación es de 7/10, creo que la película sufre de las expectativas imposibles que creó su predecesora, cualquier cosa que viniera después iba a sentirse como una decepción comparada con esa obra maestra de la acción. Anya Taylor Joy y Chris Hemsworth son buenos en sus acruaciones pero sus personajes nunca alcanzan la profundidad emocional que necesitaban para que importara realmente su destino, se quedan en lo bien hecho pero predecibles. Dura dos horas y media y la sentí mucho más larga sobretodo en la segunda parte, se pudo haber cortado fácilmente treinta minutos sin perder nada importante de la historia. Las secuencias de acción están bien hechas pero ninguna llega al nivel de genialidad pura que alcanzó la persecución en el desierto de Fury Road, Si eres fan de Mad Max te recomiendo que la veas pero no esperes quedar completamente satisfecho, creo que pudo haber sido mucho mejor si Miller se hubiera arriesgado más en lugar de jugar tan seguro.
