I had been looking for something in streaming for a long time but I ended up watching something else until I finally decided, the truth is a film that does not take itself seriously and I think that's its greatest virtue, because if it had tried to be more profound or complicated it would have been a complete disaster but by staying in the territory of pure entertainment it manages to fulfill its purpose without pretending to be something it is not. Viola Davis is tremendous in her role as the president with a very strong personality and although the script gives her some lines that are kind of cheesy she delivers them with so much conviction that you believe them, I liked when she starts throwing punches all over the place with those arms that look like a bodybuilder, This woman looks fitter than most action movie actors and it shows when she snaps the neck of a guy twice her size like it's nothing, Anthony Anderson does what he can as the first gentleman although his character is more like the typical husband who is there to make occasional jokes and be the one who cares about the kids, but he has a couple of moments where he stands up for himself that are just fine. The movie is exactly what it says in the promo no more no less, an American president fighting Australian terrorists at a G20 summit that turns into a bloodbath, the fights are well done although they are nothing you haven't seen before in similar movies like Air Force One or Olympus Has Fallen, but at least they look believable and Davis moves like someone who actually knows how to fight rather than looking like an actress pretending to know martial arts I think this makes him more believable. Antony Starr as the main bad guy well although his character is pretty standard because he's the typical bad guy with a foreign accent who has some past trauma that motivates him to do terrible things, in this case it's something to do with cryptocurrencies and manipulating global markets using deepfakes of world leaders to create economic panic.

Tenía tiempo que cuando buscaba algo en streaming me llamaba la atención G20 pero al finla terminaba viendo otra cosa hasta que por fin me decidí, la verdad es una película que no se toma en serio a sí misma y creo que esa es su mayor virtud, porque es que si hubiera intentado ser mas profunda o complicada habría sido un completo desastre pero al quedarse en el territorio de puro entretenimiento logra cumplir su propósito sin pretender ser algo que no es. Viola Davis está tremenda en su papel de presidentecon una personalidad bastante fuerte y aunque el guion le da algunas líneas que son medio cursis ella las hace con tanta convicción que uno se las cree, me gustó cuando empieza a repartir golpes por todos lados con esos brazos que parecen de fisicoculturista, esta mujer se ve mas en forma que muchos actores de películas de acción y eso se nota cuando le quiebra el cuello a un tipo que le dobla el tamaño como si nada, Anthony Anderson hace lo que puede como primer caballero aunque su personaje es más como el típico esposo que está ahí para hacer chistes ocasionales y ser el que se preocupa por los niños, pero tiene un par de momentos donde se defiende que están bien. La película es exactamente lo que dice en la promoción ni mas ni menos, una presidente estadounidense peleando contra terroristas australianos en una cumbre del G20 que se convierte en un baño de sangre, las peleas están bien hechas aunque no son nada que no hayas visto antes en películas similares como Air Force One o Olympus Has Fallen, pero por lo menos se ven creibles y Davis se mueve como alguien que realmente sabe pelear en lugar de verse como una actriz fingiendo saber artes marciales creo que esto lo hace más creíble. Antony Starr como el malo principal bien aunque su personaje es bastante común porque es el típico malo con acento extranjero que tiene algún trauma del pasado que lo motiva a hacer cosas terribles, en este caso es algo relacionado con criptomonedas y manipular los mercados globales usando deepfakes de los lideres mundiales para crear pánico económico.
One thing I liked about G20 is that it doesn't try to be clever or lecture you on geopolitics or economics, it just puts a president in an impossible situation and leaves her to fend for herself however she can with her previous military training and I think that works because Davis totally sells the character, from the family scenes where she's dealing with her rebellious teenage daughter to the more intense moments where she's crawling through ventilation ducts trying to rescue the other world leaders. The pacing is pretty good, the first half hour takes its time introducing the characters and setting up the whole situation but once the action starts it doesn't stop until the end, there are some particularly good sequences like when Davis fights in the hotel kitchen using all kinds of utensils as improvised weapons, that scene is very well filmed and shows that director Patricia Riggen knows how to handle action sequences without losing sight of the characters. The special effects are good but nothing spectacular, you can tell they didn't have the budget of a blockbuster but it doesn't look cheap either, the hotel sets and the scenes in South Africa really add up and help create that atmosphere of an international conference that later becomes a war zone, Marsai Martin as Davis' daughter is fine although her character falls into the cliché of the teenage computer genius who can hack anything in seconds, but at least she is not as annoying as these characters sometimes are in other films of the genre.

El ritmo es bastante bueno, la primera media hora se toma su tiempo presentando a los personajes y motando toda la situación pero una vez que empieza la acción no para hasta el final, hay algunas secuencias particularmente buenas como cuando Davis pelea en la cocina del hotel usando todo tipo de utensilios como armas improvisadas, esa escena está muy bien filmada y muestra que la directora Patricia Riggen sabe como manejar las secuencias de acción sin perder de vista a los personajes. Los efectos especiales están bien pero nada espectacular, se nota que no tenían el presupuesto de una superproducción pero tampoco se ve barata, los sets del hotel y las escenas en Sudáfrica árecen de verdad y ayudan a crear esa atmósfera de conferencia internacional que luego se convierte en zona de guerra, Marsai Martin como la hija de Davis está bien aunque su personaje cae en el cliché de la adolescente genio de la computación que puede hackear cualquier cosa en segundos, pero por lo menos no es tan fastidiosa como a veces son estos personajes en otras películas del género.
This movie handles the family part because even though Davis is the president of the United States she is also a mother and wife and she doesn't ignore that area but uses it to give more eotion to the fights, when terrorists threaten her family you really feel that Davis will do anything to protect them. The scenes between her and Anthony Anderson are natural even though the dialogue is sometimes stilted and they have good chemistry as a couple, he's not just the useless husband waiting to be rescued but he also does his part when things get ugly, he even has a great moment where he kills a terrorist to protect his kids that is very well done. The other world leaders are basically filler characters but some like the British prime minister and the IMF president have funny moments, like when they realize that the US president really knows what she is doing and decide to follow her leadership instead of panicking as it would happen in real life, Ramon Rodriguez as the secret service agent is very good, he has good chemistry with Davis and his action scenes are great, the guy moves well and seems believable as a professional bodyguard, he is the typical loyal agent that would do anything to protect his president.

Ahora viene lo malo de G20 y es que es dem predecible desde el primer momento ya sabes exactamente como va a terminar y cuáles personajes van a sobrevivir, no hay sorpresas reales ni ningún cambio inesperado que te haga pensar que tal vez las cosas podrían salir mal para los protagonistas, también hay algunos momentos donde la lógica se desafía como cuando Davis logra pelear contra muchos tipos al mismo tiempo sin recibir ni un rasguño, o cuando su hija logra hackear sistemas de seguridad súper avanzados usando básicamente su laptop del colegio. Otra cosa son las conversaciones entre ellos son bastante básicas digame el malo que dice líneas que suenan como si las hubiera escrito un generador de frases cliché, además hay varias escenas donde los personajes explican cosas que ya habían pasado o que eran obvias y el final es demasiado común con Davis dándole una paliza final al malo mientras pronuncia algunas líneas heroicas que suenan súper fabricadas, pero por lo menos es un final satisfactorio donde todos los malos reciben su merecido y la familia se reúne otra vez.
For me G20 is a movie you can watch with your family on a Sunday afternoon without having to think too much, it's just to entertain no more, the good thing is that Viola Davis is stunning and clearly had fun playing the role, her muscles and convincing attitude make you really believe that she could be a president capable of kicking ass when needed. My score for G20 is 6/10 it's an average movie that only makes you distracted for two hours so if you watch it expecting a big deal you're going to be left in disappointment, now if you want to see a president dishing out bare-knuckle justice against terrorists then I recommend it. The movie is well made technically, has good performances and fulfills its purpose as light entertainment, I think it's perfect for when you don't know what to see and want something that doesn't make you think too much, now that I think about it I saw it at the right time because if I had seen it before when I was looking for something deeper I would have left it in the middle.

La peli está bien hecha técnicamente, tiene buenas actuaciones y cumple su propósito como entretenimiento ligero, creo que es perfecta para cuando no sabes que ver y quieres algo que no te haga pensar mucho, ahora que lo pienso la vi en el momento correcto porque si la hubiese visto antes cuando buscaba algo más profundo la hubiese dejado a la mitad.
