Amidst political turmoil, what can an ordinary person do?
If there’s one thing I learn from various conflicts and even during covid, doom scrolling should be the first thing to avoid The Internet and social media as a whole can be its own echo-chamber. News is flying left and right, echoed, and multiplied to the point that it feels like there’s no resolution especially when it comes to a conflict.

When you see people, just like you and me on the street, you can’t help but to feel some type of belonging. Especially when they also voice out the same dissatisfaction to the ruling government.
And not everyone has the time or even think “ Who actually is benefiting from all these?”
In the end, that one conflict soon will spread elsewhere at the cost of ordinary people. It’s rarely the ruling class and the elites that would be at loss. It's a political game, a chess-like board where ordinary citizens are just pawns in this whole drama.
I would have not known what’s going on had it not been because my mom told me. I wouldn't really care either because it’s just this never ending loop.

Some so-so from the elite showed their true self, people protested, the protest ends, next election season, these elites throw in some cash, and people choose them again.
My mom has been having this new habit of checking out the local news site, highlighting further discrepancies between the elite vs ordinary citizens. To me, that’s how it has always been here and things remained the same. There’s always that distinction and ironically, as tax payers, we’re paying for the existence of those who are called people’s representatives, sitting at the council deciding what to do for us.
Despite my apathy towards the government, I can’t help but to get sucked into this wave of news. So, the best I can do as an ordinary person is to educate people to see the bigger picture of a conflict and to think critically.
What sickens me the most is that I doubt things would change. People would vote once more to those willing to hand out some cash. And eventually, repeating the same broken cycle that barely ends.
In the end, as an ordinary person, living our life as it has always been can be some of the smartest answers. It doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be informed. We should, just not excessively.
Have a great weekend!
