The Perils of Memecoin Trading + New Funny Rap Video

Last night I got a text from a friend about a memecoin trader who killed himself on an X livestream. Looking into it, I discovered several stories about a 23-year-old Santa Clara man known as MistaFuccYou who had shot himself on camera after saying that his death should be used in support of a memecoin. There was nothing in the mainstream press about it, but MSN News did repost an article that said this:

A tragic incident recently occurred when crypto trader @MistaFuccYou, also known as "Im really poor," died by suicide during a livestream on X (formerly Twitter) after losing his last USD 500 in a memecoin rug pull. In a haunting livestream, he loaded a revolver and said, "If I die, make me a meme coin." The gun misfired twice before fatally discharging. The live broadcast left his online followers in shock, witnessing the devastating event in real-time.

This tragedy hit home for me. I've recently become very involved in a Solana memecoin called @moondong. I bought a ton after being personally assured by the token's creator that he was committed to the project. He abandoned the project immediately thereafter and most of the token's market liquidity vanished at the same time. 90% of the value of my holdings evaporated.

Instead of selling and taking the catastrophic loss, I decided to get more involved. The meme couldn't be funnier and the token was still totally viable, so I joined the small team of Moondong whales holding the operation together and we committed to making Moondong Solana's #1 ethical memecoin. When news of the livestream suicide broke, we released this statement.

It's easy to find fault with the victim of a suicide. This young man shouldn't have been trading with funds he wasn't prepared to lose. He should have done his diligence before buying anything. He could've responded to his loss in a million better ways. But if he was told a coin was solid and its founders exited with his funds, these parties bear some responsibility too.

This episode illustrates the need for dramatically increased levels of transparency in the Solana memecoin community. There are people in this community who consider the exposure of their legal name to be doxxing. This is absurd. Names, ages, cities of residence, and occupations are all fair game for any kind of news reporting, and every token creator should get comfortable with having these details made publicly available.

Transparency is the basis for accountability. Once we know who is behind these token projects, we can hold them accountable for any inappropriate actions they may take. Pretty much everything I do with my Rstory token is public. And Moondong is now clearly heading in this direction.

My plan for Moondong includes treating it as Rstory's counterpart on Solana. I'd been considering doing a Solana version of my token but now I don't have the funds for that so I'm just going to use Moondong instead. Another project called Cyborg Monkey is also linking up with Moondong. Soon a little defi ecosystem may develop. Here's my latest Moondong rap.
