Success is a word everyone defines differently, for most people it means building wealth and status, for others it's about peace of mind and living a life full of purpose. There's no definition of success that fits everyone.
This prompt helped me to reflect on what success means to me personally and my dreams and also how I view financial freedom and fulfillment.
Below is the breakdown of all the prompts questions and their answers:
What’s your personal definition of success?
My own definition of success would be, having to do what I love that gives me satisfaction. Waking up everyday feeling content knowing I'm living meaningfully whether or not the society labels it "great". My own definition of success fulfillment based. I'm not aspiring to be super rich, I just want to have what I need on a daily basis and have time for my family and friends.
Do you have dreams you’re chasing — and if yes, what are they?
I have a dream of opening my own fashion workshop, having all the required machines and training young people on how to sew. But this dream is expensive because I don't have enough money for the machines and the tools remaining. But I haven't given up on it, I'm still working towards it. I already know how to sew and have taught my little sister how to sew too, I have a manual machine and one industrial weaving machine (even though its not working well), so all of these are steps taking me closer to the dream.
I also want to learn all about computers so I'm planning to study computer science in high institution.
Are you currently living your dream, or did you have to let go of your initial dream and take a different path?
To this question I'd say Yes, I'm currently living my dream even though not everything I want but at least I can sew and I get some clients and little by little ill be able to have the workshop and train other people too.
Do you see financial freedom as the ultimate measure of success? If yes, when can someone truly say they are financially free?
Financial freedom is a measure of success yes, but I do not see it as the ultimate measure of success because if I have success financially and do not have time for more important things in life then it is not true success.
At what point can a person confidently say, “I am successful”?
I think this will be when the person has his daily needs, can pay for his bills, take care of his family and keep them together, spend time with them. Also contentment is needed in everything, if a person can wake up everyday feeling content then yes, that's the best life.
And finally, is there ever a point where we stop striving and simply say: “I’ve achieved enough, now it’s time to just live and enjoy life”?
I don't know the direct answer to this but I think that someone can make a lot of money and have buy many things that he needs and he calculates his money and it will be enough for his entire lifetime so he just decides to stop striving, though I've never seen such before but I think it might be a real thing somewhere.
Conclusion
Like I said earlier, success doesn't have one definition. For me it's about living a meaningful life, having contentment and achieving my dreams no matter how long it takes.
Thank you all for your time here!
