After learning how to make Denim jacket from the online class, I decided to finally try it out, so I went to the market and saw different denims and I chose the blue denim fabric that has this shiny stuffs on it. I thought it looked really cute so I was like ok I'll use this to make a jacket and even if it no one would buy it I'll be the one wearing it.
I was eager to make this jacket, it never goes out of style and it is versatile and timeless and when you use it in an outfit it adds that rugged charm to it.
But looking at this denim, I knew it wouldn't be easy, it was strong, heavy, and not as “forgiving” as other fabrics I’ve worked with. But I still decided to challenge myself and try.
And the good part is always that when you finish it the jacket looks so good that you forget all the difficulties it posed. And I'm glad I did it and even learnt new stuffs.
Cutting denim can be as tough as convincing a stubborn child, it resists! 😂. I had to press hard to get clean and straight cuts. I first cut out the basic pieces of the jacket, the pieces of the front and the pockets in front, then the back, the sleeves and the collar, using my drafted pattern paper, and I made sure to add the seam allowances.
Another challenge I had was getting my machine to cooperate, the threads were cutting, skipping seams and even broke the needle till I switched to a stronger needle.
Soon I was sewing the pieces together and the jacket was slowly getting life. First step in the sewing was fixing the pockets and the cover after the denim details in front.

Then I joined the front and back shoulder and interlocked the shoulders. I then fixed the collars on it.
Next and tricky part was the sleeve, first arranged the sleeve, added the band and then joined it to the bodice after that it was almost ready
I then did the button holes and metal buttons and the jacket was ready.
While working with denim, Patience is key. Denim won’t be rushed, but with persistence, you get what you want and the work really pays off when you see what you were able to create. Sometimes the best works are not the easy one.
So my aunt saw this denim jacket and decided to buy it from me because she really liked it and now she's rocking it in her outfits. This is one of the best projects I've worked on and I'm so glad it turned out really nice! Thank you all for your time here, I hope you liked this.
