This afternoon, I went for a walk in nature with my friends. While walking, I noticed a small grasshopper sitting on a vine. I took out my phone and took a few pictures. Grasshoppers have some characteristics. The body of a grasshopper (Scientific name: Caelifera) can be divided into three parts: head, thorax, and abdomen. The head has two large eyes and a pair of antennae, with which they sense everything around them.
The thorax is like a powerful machine, because this is where the long hind legs are attached. With those legs, the grasshopper jumps away in an instant. Again, the thorax has the connection of wings—the front wings are hard and protective, and the back wings are soft, with which they float in the air.
Their lifestyle is also quite interesting. They are mainly herbivores—they live by eating grass, leaves, and various plants. However, the most interesting thing is that grasshoppers are not only famous for eating or jumping. They rub their wings and legs together to create a sound that is actually a signal. They use that signal to call their mate, just as humans use songs to attract their loved ones.
