Hello Hive Family,

This is @mairaj.ansari from Karachi, Pakistan.

📅A Date to Remember 14th August 1947, the day Pakistan 🇵🇰 emerged on the world map. Fast forward to 2025, and this 14th August we will be celebrating our 78th Independence Day.

📉 Festivals Then vs. Now With the arrival of social media in modern life, I feel the intensity of festivals has gone down a bit.

I remember my childhood in the 90s and early 2000s, when there were no mobile phones or social media, the passion, participation, excitement, and contribution from everyone during festivals were on another level.

Little kids from every house in the neighborhood would collect small amounts of money to buy flags and lights for decoration.

After social media came along, that same kind of passion and energy hasn’t been there.

Still, Independence Day is one of those days that every Pakistani feels proud to celebrate from the heart.

🛍 The Stalls of Karachi For example, let me tell you about just one busy intersection in the city, it’s filled with countless stalls selling flags, badges, and green-and-white accessories for both children and adults.

🌅 Morning: These stalls, which were busy late into the night selling Independence Day items, are quiet and almost deserted while everyone is heading to work.

🌆 Evening: As people return home from offices, the rush at these stalls increases so much that sometimes it’s hard to even reach them.

I had to buy some accessories, flags, and badges for my kids, as their schools have arranged functions. I barely managed to reach there, grabbed what I needed, and came back completely exhausted.😥

The crowd is only going to increase now since there's still a couple of days to go for 14th August 😀

🎉 Celebrations Everywhere This is just a glimpse of the market’s hustle and bustle. Apart from that, people decorate according to their own style:

Car owners decorate their cars with national flags

Bikers put flags on their bikes

Families put up flags at their homes

Small gatherings are arranged where people comme together and celeberate with national songs and flags.

Again, these gatherings and celebrations aren't the same as they used to be, but whatever remains is still worth cherishing.

🎓 Schools, Colleges, and Offices These places also celebrate in their own styles, holding gatherings where people express joy, often cutting cakes and adding sweetness to the day.

❤️ More Than Just a Celebration I believe Independence Day is not just a day for celebration, but also a promise that we make to our homeland that we will keep it safe, and will make every effort for its prosperity.

Thanks for reading. I’d love to hear in the comments how you celebrate Independence Day.
