As I told you in another of my posts, I recently had a wonderful rediscovery of a book I loved reading since I was a child, as it was a collection of the best stories by the Brothers Grimm. I'm not talking about the most everyday and well-known ones like Cinderella, Snow White, or Little Red Riding Hood, but rather stories that may not be as well-known but are very moving and teach us great lessons for life. >Tal como yo les comenté a ustedes en otro de mis post, recientemente tuve un hermoso reencuentro con un libro que yo amaba leer desde niña, ya que se trataba de una recopilación de las mejores historias de los hermanos Grimm, no les hablo de las más cotidianas y conocidas como Cenicienta, Blancanieves o Caperucita Roja, sino de historias que tal vez no son tan conocidas pero sí son muy emocionantes y nos dejan grandes enseñanzas para la vida.
On this occasion, I want to tell you about The Six Swans, or “Die sechs Schwäne,” which is the original German title. This tale recounts the life of a king and his seven children (six sons and one daughter), all of whom lived happily and in complete harmony, even tho the king had been widowed; his love was enough to protect his children. However, on one occasion when the king went on a journey, thinking it might do his children good, he found a new wife and brought her back to the castle with the intention that she would be a new mother to the six princes and the little princess. Nevertheless, that woman was an evil witch, so she cast a spell on the king to make him forget his children, turned the six princes into swans and forced them to leave the palace, and also expelled the princess. Every so often they would return in search of their sister, but the wicked queen ordered the guards to shoot at them; the girl, meanwhile, had to take another path, until they finally reunited and were able to go live in a cave. Time passed, and a fairy revealed to the princess that the only way to save her brothers and restore them to human form was to remain silent for seven years while she made a shirt for each of them. She did so, enduring the solitude and the accusations of others who believed her to be a witch; they even tried to burn her at the stake, but on that very day she managed to finish the last shirt. So the six swans put on the shirts, the spell was broken, and she was able to speak again, revealing everything that had happened.
En esta ocasión quiero hablarles de Los Seis Cisnes o "Die sechs Schwäne" el cuál es el título original en alemán Este cuento nos relata la vida de un rey y sus siete hijos (seis varones y una niña) todos vivían felices y en completa armonía, a pesar de que el rey había enviudado, pero su amor fue suficiente para proteger a sus hijos, sin embargo en una ocasión en que el rey se fue de viaje, pensando que podría hacerle bien a sus hijos consiguió una nueva esposa y la llevó con él al castillo con la intención de que fuese una nueva madre para los seis príncipes y la princesita, no obstante aquella mujer era una malvada bruja, así que hechizó al rey para que olvidara a sus hijos, hechizó a los seis príncipes convirtiéndolos en Cisnes y los hizo marcharse del palacio, y también expulsó a la princesa. Ellos regresaban cada cierto tiempo en busca de su hermana pero la malvada reina le ordenaba a los guardias que disparasen, la niña en cambio tuvo que tomar otro rumbo, hasta que finalmente se reencontraron y pudieron irse a vivir a una cueva. El tiempo pasó y un hada le revela a la princesa que la única manera de salvar a sus hermanos y hacer que volvieran a ser humanos era guardar silencio por siete años mientras elaboraba una camisa para cada uno de ellos, y ella lo hace, soporta la soledad y las acusaciones de los demás que piensan que ella es una bruja, incluso intentaron quemarla en la hoguera pero justo ese día ella logró terminar la última camisa, así que los seis cisnes se pusieron las camisas, se revirtió el hechizo y ella pudo hablar nuevamente, revelando todo lo que había sucedido.
In my opinion, the brothers' transformation into swans is a representation of the evil of the world, envy, and injustice, but their transformation back into humans is something like redemption through sacrifice and love. Their sister is the wicked witch's nemesis because she is willing to sacrifice herself for love: she endures physical and emotional pain, endures people's insults, and even the terrible fact of not being able to speak, not being able to express her feelings, not even utter a faint laugh, but in the end all that sacrifice was worth it, so it is also proof that perseverance and patience are virtues well rewarded.
En mi opinión La transformación de los hermanos en cisnes es una representación de la maldad del mundo, la envidia, y la injusticia, pero su transformación nuevamente a humanos es algo así como la redención a través del sacrificio y el amor. Su hermana es el Némesis de la malvada bruja porque ella está dispuesta a sacrificarse por amor: soporta el dolor físico y emocional, soporta las injurias de la gente e incluso el terrible hecho de no poder hablar, no poder expresar sus sentimientos, ni siquiera emitir una débil risa, pero al final de cuentas todo ese sacrificio valió la pena, así que también es una prueba de que la perseverancia y la paciencia son virtudes muy bien recompensadas.
On the other hand, the book has few illustrations (one or two per story) but they are beautiful, they have a romantic and medieval style.
Por otra parte el libro tiwne pocas ilustraciones (una o dos por historias) pero son hermosas, tienen un estilo romántico y medieval
When the princess is unjustly accused of witchcraft, the reader feels a great deal of frustration, but at the same time, this adds an element of tension and conflict to the story, keeping you engaged throughout the reading. I also think this highlights injustice and the need to defend the truth above all else. It also highlights important moral values like sisterly love and the sacrifices we are willing to make for those we love so dearly.
Cuando la princesa es acusada injustamente de brujería, uno como lector siente mucha frustración pero a la vez es esto lo que le añade un elemento de tensión y conflicto a la historia, así que te mantiene entusiasmado en la lectura. Además también pienso que este hecho resalta la injusticia y la necesidad de defender la verdad ante todo. Por otra parte resalta valores morales importantes como el amor fraternal y los sacrificios que estamos dispuestos a hacer por aquellos que amamos tanto.
This story is not about a brave prince rescuing a helpless princess, it is about a woman who rescues six princes and she does not do it with a sharp sword or powerful spells, but through love and sacrifice, as a mother would do, so it is a beautiful story of brotherly love, having a happy and satisfying ending that symbolizes the victory of good over evil.
Esta historia no se trata de un valiente príncipe que rescata a una desvalida princesa, se trata de una mujer que rescata a seis príncipes y no hace con una espada filosa o con hechizos poderosos, sino a través del amor y el sacrificio, como lo haría una madre, así que es una bella historia de amor fraternal, teniendo un final feliz y satisfactorio que simboliza la victoria del bien sobre el mal
