How quickly time has passed! We are already in week 40 of Vibes, and it seems incredible to think that it was only yesterday when we began this musical journey. It fills me with joy to be part, once again, of this space that week after week invites us to take music beyond our borders.
On this occasion, with no set theme, I decided to go back to my roots and remember the music I grew up with. My father's family has always been very bohemian, and since I was a child I have been surrounded by songs that not only had profound lyrics, but also melodies full of beauty and feeling.
Today I want to share with you a song that marked my childhood: “La Gloria eres tú” (You Are the Glory), by Cuban composer José Antonio Méndez García. It is a work that idealizes the beloved as a source of fulfillment and joy, elevating earthly love to the level of heavenly glory.
I first heard this song in two very different but equally special settings: at family gatherings, listening to my dad sing it with such feeling, and later in the voice of Luis Miguel, who included it on his 1997 album Romances. From then on, I was inspired to learn some chords of this style of bolero that inspires me so much and that I want to perform for all of you today. I hope you enjoy my version as much as I enjoyed preparing this little piece of nostalgia and love in the form of music.
¡Qué rápido ha pasado el tiempo! Ya estamos en la semana 40 de Vibes, y parece increíble pensar que fue hace nada cuando comenzamos esta travesía musical. Me llena de alegría formar parte, una vez más, de este espacio que semana tras semana nos invita a llevar la música más allá de nuestras fronteras.
En esta ocasión de temática libre, decidí volver a mis raíces y recordar la música con la que crecí. Mi familia paterna siempre ha sido muy bohemia, y desde pequeña me rodearon canciones que no solo tenían letras profundas, sino también melodías cargadas de belleza y sentimiento.
Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un tema que marcó mi infancia: “La Gloria eres tú”, del compositor cubano José Antonio Méndez García. Una obra que idealiza al ser amado como fuente de plenitud y dicha, elevando el amor terrenal hasta compararlo con la gloria celestial.
Conocí esta canción en dos escenarios muy distintos, pero igualmente especiales: en las reuniones familiares, escuchando a mi papá cantarla con tanto sentimiento, y más tarde en la voz de Luis Miguel, quien la incluyó en su álbum Romances de 1997. A partir de ahí, me animé a aprender algunos acordes de este estilo de bolero que tanto me inspira y que hoy quiero interpretar para todos ustedes. Espero que disfruten mi versión tanto como yo disfruté preparar este pedacito de nostalgia y amor en forma de música.
