A veces vemos edificaciones en ruinas que nos hacen preguntarnos sobre la historia detrás de lo que en la actualidad solo son vestigios del pasado. Justo esto me sucedió recientemente cuando luego de pasar por el balneario de Quilmes, llegué a la parte privada del mismo que no es más que el Club Pejerrey.
Desde la entrada, se ve un gran muelle que abarca un par de cuadras, y a los lados se pueden observar los edificios, algunos en ruinas, de lo que fuera el primer balneario de la ciudad. Siendo el área de las piscinas lo primero que se logra divisar: 4 piscinas de agua salada, rodeadas por los edificios que hacÃan de vestidores, los cuales siguen siendo tan vistosos e imponentes con sus más de 50 ventanillas alineadas en sus paredes de color blanco hueso.
Desconozco si se puede tener acceso a ese espacio, pues de todo el conjunto es el que mejor semblante tiene, aunque durante mi visita no vi que alguien transitara por esa zona. Buscando un poco de información en internet sobre sus orÃgenes, pude observar como era muy concurrido por personas de la alta sociedad, quienes disfrutaban de baños al aire libre, además de ser un espacio para socializar sin tanto protocolo.
Un poco más adelante se encuentra lo que era el área de boliches, donde se daban cita los amantes de la vida nocturna y la música bailable. También está un mirador, en el cual todavÃa se reúnen algunas personas para disfrutar de los atardeceres que regala la naturaleza a diario.
La zona de buffet, albergaba restaurantes de todo tipo de gastronomÃa, con edificios de corte colonial en los que se encontraban las cocinas, y algunas mesas, aunque lo fantástico era poder degustar de la comida en las zonas al aire libre.
De entre todos los espacios de este tipo, solo queda abierto el restaurant Mona Lisa en una de sus alas, y la pizzerÃa del Capitán, donde pude disfrutar de una pizza luego de todo el recorrido.
La persona que me acompañó en este paseo, me contaba que para su época de bonanza, era el lugar ideal para pasear en familia, con amigos y hasta solo, con la esperanza de encontrar pareja. De todo eso, ahora queda el recuerdo de mujeres y hombres de la tercera edad, pues aunque sigue siendo visitado por familias que van de pesca o a disfrutar del aire libre, los minutos se pasan con una visión muy distinta.
En estos dÃas, las cañas de pesca artesanal y alguna que otra red son las protagonistas del lugar que hace muchos años fuera en sueño de los hermanos Fiorito, unos emigrantes italianos que lograron hacerse de este espacio y lo convirtieron en una de las joyas más preciadas de Quilmes.
Muchos logran resolver la comida del dÃa con algún pez, pero la mayorÃa de los visitantes son jubilados que buscan además de la serenidad del lugar, tener con quien conversar mientras dejan a la suerte y las carnadas el trabajo de pesca.
La entrada al mismo es gratis hasta cierto punto, luego de la mitad del trecho se accede por membresÃa o invitación de alguno de sus miembros, y aunque es un espacio que actualmente le pertenece al gobierno municipal, durante muchos años fue propiedad privada, siendo esta época la de su mayor florecimiento.

Sometimes we see buildings in ruins that make us wonder about the history behind what are now only vestiges of the past. Just this happened to me recently when, after passing by the Quilmes beach resort, I arrived at the private part of it, which is none other than the Pejerrey Club.
From the entrance, you can see a large pier that covers a couple of blocks, and on the sides you can see the buildings, some in ruins, of what was the first resort of the city. The first thing you can make out is the swimming pool area: 4 salt water pools, surrounded by the buildings that used to be the dressing rooms, which are still so colorful and imposing with their more than 50 windows lined up on their off-white walls.
I do not know if you can have access to that space, because of all the set is the best looking, although during my visit I did not see anyone passing through that area. Looking for some information on the internet about its origins, I could see how it was very popular with people of high society, who enjoyed outdoor bathing, besides being a place to socialize without much protocol.
A little further on you will find what used to be the nightclub area, where nightlife and dance music lovers used to gather. There is also a viewpoint, where some people still gather to enjoy the sunsets that nature gives us every day.
The buffet area housed restaurants of all types of gastronomy, with colonial style buildings where the kitchens and some tables were located, although the fantastic thing was to be able to taste the food in the open air areas.
Of all the spaces of this type, only the Mona Lisa restaurant remains open in one of its wings, and the Captain's pizzeria, where I was able to enjoy a pizza after the tour.
The person who accompanied me on this walk, told me that in its heyday, it was the ideal place to walk with family, friends and even alone, in the hope of finding a partner. Of all that, now the memory of women and men of the third age remains, because although it is still visited by families who go fishing or to enjoy the outdoors, the minutes are spent with a very different vision.
These days, the handmade fishing rods and the occasional net are the protagonists of the place that many years ago was the dream of the Fiorito brothers, Italian emigrants who managed to take over this space and turned it into one of the most precious jewels of Quilmes.
Many manage to catch the day's meal with a fish, but most visitors are retirees who, in addition to the serenity of the place, are looking for someone to talk to while they leave the fishing work to luck and bait.
The entrance to the place is free up to a certain point, after half of the stretch it is accessed by membership or invitation of one of its members, and although it is a space that currently belongs to the municipal government, for many years it was private property, being this the time of its greatest flourishing.
