Many of you may of heard of the T.V show “Empire.” But, you may have not known about the album they made with all of the music from season 1. Right at the beginning of the first episode, it features a lady singing about love. No, not love as in dating or marriage.
She wrote the song “What is Love,” in honor of her brother and father that were murdered. She sings about what it is truly like to lose someone forever, not just from a breakup. Grieving is a terrible process and using music was V’s outlet. Yes, ending a relationship with your partner is very difficult and heartbreaking, but having someone so dear to your heart die is a completely different feeling.
“What is Love” expresses all the questions and feelings you have after going through loss. “What is love if you’re not here with me? What is love if it’s not guaranteed?” The expressions and tone of V’s voice help you hear the pain she’s experiencing.
This song is not about sex or drugs, it’s about real, raw pain. Most people do not understand real loss and real pain, they only notice the exterior of what the real situation is. This song will help you truly recognize what it’s like to lose someone. I chose this song for week 32 because I’ve lost too many loved ones in my life so I know this pain and how it can impact greatly on our lives. The challenge I has while recording was the same ol technical problems the volume fluctuations and my phones mic issues lol and hopefully the issues would be fixed.
