Not a very old apple tree. Just a year and a half, at most, after planting it in the yard. When I see growth from the base of trees, I usually prune them off to help the center preserve more energy...
But in this case...
Something mysteriously delves the core of the stem away. The branches above are very much alive and fresh, still... but who knows... I feel it's quite threatened, the whole plant. So, those lower twigs might be its chance for the future.
Strange thing, apple trees...
