Hola, Queridos Hivers!
Desde el año pasado, cuando nos mudamos al conjunto residencial en el que estamos viviendo actualmente, empezamos a ir todos los domingos a una iglesia que queda muy cerca, fijamente. Allí nos encariñamos con la hermosa manera de el padre Thomás, el vicario de la iglesia, de dar las misas.
A él le tocaba dar la misa de las 5pm, justamente en esas misas es que le toca cantar al coro en el que yo participo, así que excepto por las veces en las que no podía ir, no perdí ninguna de sus misas.
El fin de semana pasado nos enteramos de que el padre Thomás va a ser transferido a otra parroquia, muy lejos de esta, así que nos pusimos manos a la obra para hacer que su último domingo en la parroquia San Benito fuera memorable.
Con el director y mis compañeros de coro nos pusimos de acuerdo para llevar algo para compartir con el padre después de la misa, y yo por otro lado, gracias a una linda idea que tuvo mi mamá, le hice un retrato.
Después de hacer el primer boceto con lapiz, y corregirlo muchas veces, cuando por fin se pareció a la foto que tomé de referencia, lo repasé con marcador y empecé a rellenarlo con Oil Pastels.
Afortunadamente, el resultado llegó rápido! Cuando terminé el rostro, y quedé satisfecha con las sombras y luces, le hice la ropa y el fondo. Y en un ladito, idea de mi mamá, añadí la silueta de la Virgen de Valle, la patrona de oriente, que es de donde soy, para que siempre lo proteja.
Después de la misa, le entregué el dibujo, y me pareció que le gustó mucho! Espero que lleve el detalle en su corazón.
Al rato se nos unió en el salón donde suele ensayar el coro, y allí conversamos un poco, y compartimos unas galletitas. Fue un momento bonito. Espero que le vaya muy bien en su nueva misión. 🙏🏼

Hello, Dear Hivers!
Since last year, when we moved to the residential complex where we currently live, we started attending a church very close by every Sunday. There, we became attached to the beautiful way Father Thomas, the vicar of the church, celebrated Mass.
He was supposed to celebrate the 5 p.m. Mass; it was precisely at those Masses that the choir I participate in sings, so except for the times I couldn't attend, I didn't miss any of his Masses.
Last weekend, we learned that Father Thomas was going to be transferred to another parish, very far from this one, so we set to work to make his last Sunday at St. Benedict Parish a memorable one.
With the director and my choirmates, we agreed to bring something to share with the priest after Mass. Thanks to a lovely idea my mom had, I drew his portrait.
After making the first pencil sketch and correcting it many times, when it finally resembled the photo I took as a reference, I went over it with a marker and began filling it in with oil pastels.
Fortunately, the result came quickly! When I finished the face and was satisfied with the shadows and highlights, I drew his clothes and background. And on one side, my mom's idea, she added the silhouette of the Virgin of Valle, the patron saint of the East, where I'm from, so that she would always protect him.
After Mass, I gave him the drawing, and I thought he really liked it! I hope he takes the detail to heart.
After a while, he joined us in the hall where the choir usually rehearses, and there we chatted a bit and shared some cookies. It was a lovely moment. I hope he does well in his new mission. 🙏🏼
