Roślina ta pochodzi z Azji południowo wschodniej. Jej pierwotnym domem są tereny Japonii, Chin, czy Korei, ale ze względu na swoje niezwykłe piękno została z przyjemnością zaadoptowana na całym świecie.

This plant has various names, but one of them (Weigela florida) comes from the name of the famous and respected German botanist Christian Ehrenfried Weigel and is a tribute to him and his achievements in science.

Na pierwszy rzut oka, roślina wygląda jak trochę zwiędły, wysuszony owoc winorośli. Nic bardziej mylnego, ta roślina to Mahonia ostrolistna. Niestety nie miałem okazji zobaczyć jej pięknych żółtych kwiatów, które pojawiają się wczesną wiosną, ale przynajmniej wiem jak wyglądają jej owoce.

The plant is undoubtedly very attractive, distinctive, and likely a beautiful addition to gardens. But beyond its aesthetic qualities, the plant also has other benefits: its fruit is edible.

Roślina niewątpliwie jest bardzo ładna, charakterystyczna i zapewne pięknie prezentuje się w ogrodach. Ale poza cechami estetycznymi, roślina ma również inne walory. Jej owoce są bowiem jadalne.

Although the fruit of the Mahonia arguta has a sour and tart taste, it can be successfully used to make liqueurs, juices, and jams. The plant is a rich source of health-promoting vitamins and trace elements, which will certainly be useful during the fall and winter.

Mimo iż owoce mahonii ostrolistnej są kwaśne i cierpkie w smaku można z powodzeniem robić nalewki, soki czy dżemy. Roślina to arsenał prozdrowotnych witamin i mikroelementów, które na pewny przydadzą się w okresie jesienno-zimowym.
