¡Hola, mi querida gente de Hive y comunidad de @hivemargarita ! ¿Cómo están hoy? Yo estoy emocionada de compartir con ustedes esta maravilla que se encuentra en mi pueblo natal y que, a mi parecer, le da vida a lo que podría ser una simple laguna y no solo éso, también ésta es mí primer post en ésta comunidad así que la alegría y emoción por compartirles ésto es el doble.
Y gracias a la invitación de @elmundodemiri me uno a la iniciativa de @hivemargarita de cuál es tu lugar favorito de la isla y ahora es mí turno de hablar sobre éste hermoso lugar que pocas personas conocen pero que es una completa maravilla.
Uno de mis lugares favoritos en la bellísima Península de Macanao está en mi querido pueblo de Boca del Río: se llama Laguna La Acequia. Con el tiempo, esta laguna se ha convertido en el hogar de una de las aves más hermosas: los flamencos, o "tococo" como los llamamos los margariteños. Ahora ellos adornan el paisaje y hacen sus nidos entre los manglares, donde descansan por las noches.
Sus crías, al crecer, se ven como pequeñas manchas blancas entre los flamencos adultos que ya tienen ese color rosado tan característico, y sí blanco, los tococos o flamencos no tienen naturalmente ese particular color rosa desde su nacimiento, mientras, simplemente poseen un plumaje blanco que los hace parecer pequeños y adorables peluchitos de patitas largas y un poco torpes. Y justo hablando de colores, ¿saben por qué estas aves tienen esa tonalidad tan particular? Si no lo saben, ¡ahora mismo lo descubrirán!
El color de los flamencos se debe a su alimentación. Estas aves consumen unos microcrustáceos que contienen carotenoides, un pigmento que se transfiere a su cuerpo se descompone y los tiñe de un hermoso rosa. Sus crías nacen con un plumaje blanco que se torna rosa poco a poco, un proceso que dura aproximadamente tres años, que es lo que tarda un flamenco en llegar a la adultez. ¿No sería una locura ver un flamenco adulto de color blanco o grisáceo? Sinceramente, creo que se verían igual de bellos, ¡aunque quizá menos coquetos!
Estos flamencos construyen sus nidos duermen en una vegetación muy particular: los manglares. Los manglares son ecosistemas de árboles y arbustos que se encuentran en lagunas, ríos y costas, y son vitales, no solo para esta especie, sino también para el medio ambiente, ya que protegen las costas de tormentas y la erosión.
Este lugar, en mi querido pueblo de Boca del Río, es sin duda un sitio que vale la pena visitar si algún día deciden recorrer este lado de la isla. Es un tesoro que espera ser admirado por personas como ustedes, que aprecian la naturaleza, los bellos paisajes y las criaturas con las que compartimos este planeta.
Éste no es sólo un post para que conozcan esta belleza de lugar, si no, también para hacer conciencia acerca del ecosistema en el que viven y la real importancia que éstos tienen para nosotros como seres humanos y para el planeta 🌎, así que cuiden mucho de la naturaleza que ella también cuida de nosotros.

I'm excited to share with you this wonder that is in my hometown and that, in my opinion, gives life to what could be a simple lagoon and not only that, this is also my first post in this community so the joy and excitement to share this with you is double.
And thanks to the invitation from @elmundodemiri, I am joining @hivemargarita's initiative to share your favorite place on the island, and now it's my turn to talk about this beautiful place that few people know about but is absolutely wonderful.
One of my favorite places in the beautiful Macanao Peninsula is in my beloved town of Boca del Rio: it's called Laguna La Acequia. Over time, this lagoon has become home to one of the most beautiful birds: the flamingos, or “tococo” as we Margariteños call them. Now they adorn the landscape and lay their nests among the mangroves, where they rest at night.
Their young, as they grow, look like small white spots among the adult flamingos that already have that characteristic pink color, and yes white, the tococos or flamingos do not naturally have that particular pink color from birth, while they simply have a white plumage that makes them look like small and adorable little cuddly toys with long and a little clumsy legs. And just talking about colors, do you know why these birds have that particular hue? If you don't know, you'll find out now!
The color of flamingos is due to their diet. These birds consume microcrustaceans that contain carotenoids, a pigment that is transferred to their bodies and decomposes and dyes them a beautiful pink. Their young are born with white plumage that gradually turns pink, a process that takes about three years, which is how long it takes a flamingo to reach adulthood. Wouldn't it be crazy to see a white or grayish adult flamingo? Honestly, I think they would look just as beautiful, though perhaps less flirtatious!
These flamingos build their nests in a very particular vegetation: mangroves. Mangroves are ecosystems of trees and shrubs found along lagoons, rivers and coasts, and are vital not only for this species, but also for the environment, as they protect the coasts from storms and erosion.
This place, in my beloved town of Boca del Rio, is without a doubt a place worth visiting if you ever decide to travel this side of the island. It is a treasure waiting to be admired by people like you, who appreciate nature, beautiful landscapes and the creatures we share this planet with.
