Greetings, dear reader. I am pleased to share my experiences as a beginner in the world of sewing. I am still practicing during the week. At this stage, I am using old pieces that we no longer wear at home and trying to give them a new look so we can continue wearing them if the fabric is still in good condition.
Last week, my daughter told me that she could no longer wear some shirts that had been given to her some time ago because they were too tight. Now I can make what was once only in my mind a reality: transforming them with a sewing machine. This old Brother machine that I inherited is still working, although it overheats, so I try to handle it with care and let it rest so that it remains useful. So, getting back to the shirt, my daughter suggested I make a skirt, but it wouldn't fit her because of her measurements. However, it would fit another girl, so I got to work.
Sorry, I forgot to take photos when I was cutting, but I tried to capture them from then on. The shirt had some pleats in the front, and I thought it would be great to leave them for the front. I tried to take advantage of the existing seams, even though I would have to sew them again, but it's an advantage considering the condition of my old machine. I cut strips approximately 37 cm long and 9 cm wide, four for the front (two dark pink and two light pink). At this point, I should clarify that I had to supplement with fabric from another shirt. In total, I used two shirts, but I had enough left over from the last one for another project.
For the back, I used only dark pink fabric, sewed a straight seam, zigzagged the ends, and finished with a topstitch. I inserted the elastic and closed the seam of that hem at the waist. Each piece of fabric was ironed, which is necessary to be able to make the hems and ensure the best possible sewing results. This is what I have learned from each small project. I can't say that the result is perfect because nothing is, but I would say it's acceptable considering my level of sewing.
I feel satisfied because I know that every step, every practice will allow me to do better every day. Every piece I make makes me happy, and even more so when I wear it or someone else does. Un saludo cordial estimado lector, me da gusto compartir mis experiencias como principiante en el mundo de la costura, les cuento que sigo practicando en la semana. En esta etapa estoy usando viejas piezas que ya no usamos tanto en casa y trato de darles un aire nuevo para continuar usandolas si la tela aún está en buenas condiciones.
Mi hija la semana pasada me comentó que ya no podía usar unas camisas que le habían regalado hace un tiempo debido a que le quedaban ajustadas, ahora puedo hacer realidad lo que antes sólo estaba en mi mente, transformar con una máquina de coser, es que esta vieja máquina Brother que me heredaron sigue activa, anque se recalienta y trato de manejarla con cuidado, con su descanso para que siga siendo útil. Entonces retomando el punto de la camisa, mi hija me sugirió hacer una falda pero ya para ella no serviría por sus medidas, sin embargo para otra chica si, así que me puse manos a la obra.
Disculpen en el momento del corte olvidé las fotos, sin embargo en adelante si traté de captarlas, la camisa tenía unos plises adelante y me pareció estupendo dejarlos para la parte delantera, traté de aprovechar costuras ya hechas, igual les pasaría costura nuevamente pero es una ventaja tomando en cuenta el estado de mi vieja máquina. Corté franjas de aproximadamente 37 cms de largo y 9 cms de ancho, 4 para la parte delantera (dos rosado oscuro y dos rosado claro). En este punto aclaro que tuve que completar con tela de otra camisa, en total usé dos camisas pero de la última me sobró para otro proyecto.
Para la parte posterior usé sólo tela rosado oscuro, pasé costura lineal, zig zag en las puntas y un pespunte para rematar. Introduje la elástica y cerré la costura de ese dobladillo en la cintura. Cada pieza de tela fue planchada, esto es necesario para poder hacer los dobladillos y que el resultado al coser sea lo mejor posible, es lo que he aprendido en cada pequeño proyecto. No puedo decir que el resultado sea perfecto porque nada lo es, diría que aceptable tomando en cuenta mi nivel en la costura.
Me siento satisfecha porque sé que cada paso, cada práctica me permitirá hacerlo mejor cada día. Cada pieza que confecciono me hace feliz y aún más lucirla o que otro lo haga. Esta faldita será un regalo al igual que otras que ya confeccioné y que proximamente compartiré. Si eres principiante como yo bienvenida al club, sigue adelante practicando te sorprenderás con los resultados.
