Hi,
The Splinterlands team is working hard to improve the onboarding of new players so that as many players as possible fall in love with the game during the upcoming marketing push, just as I did 6.5 years ago. The new Frontier mode gives me the same vibes I had in the early days. ✌️ ✊ 🤚 And the mobile app makes gaming so much more accessible! 🙌
But the goal should be to convince players to try the so-called premium game. The threshold is much higher today than it used to be. A decent deck, even in the Silver League, costs a lot, the rewards are low due to the decreased SPS price, and the reward cards are soulbound.
So, not ideal conditions... But as some have already heard, there will soon be a new reward card set. Maybe we can expect something exciting. 👀
However, the most important thing will always be how much fun the game is. The most important factor is Modern Mode, as the team is mainly financed by the purchase of these cards.
And here I asked myself, what about the top guilds? Members of the top 12 guilds should be the spearhead of the player base and play the game more actively than average. So I simply took a sober look at how many members of each guild regularly play Modern Mode. For the past month, much more detailed match statistics have been displayed. Anyone who has only played a handful of battles during this period still counts as inactive in my book.
Here are the results:
Rank | Guild | Members | Modern Players | Ratio |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | [KoG] Shield of Glory | 30 | 12 | 40.0 % |
2 | Knights United | 30 | 12 | 40.0 % |
3 | [KoG] Guardians of Glory | 30 | 12 | 40.0 % |
4 | Suboptimal Execution | 29 | 16 | 55.2 % |
5 | Team Possible | 30 | 11 | 36.7 % |
6 | YGG Brawlers (Niflheim) | 30 | 12 | 40.0 % |
7 | Plan B | 30 | 15 | 50.0 % |
8 | YGG Brawlers (Ásgard) | 28 | 9 | 32.1 % |
9 | Immortal Gods | 29 | 13 | 44.8 % |
10 | Legendary Dragons | 30 | 5 | 16.7 % |
11 | [YGG] Legion | 29 | 4 | 13.8 % |
12 | Summoner's Tribe | 28 | 10 | 35.7 % |
Top 12 total | 353 | 131 | 37.1 % |
Let's put the numbers into a chart and visualize how small the share is for each guild.
Only a minority of players from top guilds actively play in Modern. Let's change that!
To be honest, I'm a little surprised that even among the top guilds, the percentage is so low. Despite the fact that some other members, including many top players, have purchased modern cards, they no longer actively play the main game. At first glance, this does not bode well for the game's appeal. Why should new players stay, if old ones are not motivated to play?
Perhaps, in addition to efforts to attract new players to Splinterlands, we should also consider the potential of those who are currently only botting their accounts with old cards and, at best, playing in brawls.
What would it take to get them playing actively again? Perhaps the guild leaders could be a central point of contact. Inactive members in the top guilds in particular have invested a lot of time and money in Splinterlands at some point. Why not try to reactivate them? In addition, many guild leaders are still in contact with former players. This could also be a channel for marketing once the team reaches the point where the game and website have been revamped to a good, new level.
Since the Splinterlands team wants to be prudent with its available marketing resources, reaching out to guild leaders would be a smart move. On the one hand, this would allow feedback to be coordinated and channeled, and on the other hand, it would enable a more personal approach to former and passive players. This doesn't require any budget, just a little time. But it could be worth it.
Vonak!
