Warm greetings to my friends at #hivebookclub, who have kindly joined me. On numerous occasions, I have brought you poetry notebooks, but today's is framed within the narrative genre and is a notebook dear to my heart.
This is Roberto Mendez Martínez's book, Legends and Traditions of Camagüey, in whose texts the author does not make extensive use of his abundant linguistic and literary resources, aiming for a more colloquial communication. As the author himself said on the back cover, and I quote: "When writing this, I didn't think of researchers, but of those people who have so often asked me about the more or less fabulous details that inspire our past."* - end of quote.
Camagüey is a town filled with legends and traditions. In this notebook, distributed in a single section, there are fifteen stories. Although not all of the popular ones, they do contain the most relevant ones.
The Kidnapping of the Princesses, which tells how pirates who frequently invaded the city took a large number of local girls hostage.
Or that of The Holy Sepulcher, a tradition that the town keeps alive today and is practiced during the celebrations of San Juan.
But there is no doubt that the dark story of Dolores Rondón and her unique epitaph in the local cemetery is one of the best known. The decima reads:
Here Dolores Rondón ended her career, come mortal and consider greatness what it is; pride and presumption opulence and power, All come to an end for only the evil that is thrifted and the good that can be done is immortalized.
Roberto Méndez Martínez is a poet, narrator, essayist, and art critic. He is today one of the most relevant intellectuals in our country, winner of numerous awards and prizes, and was the historian of the city of Camagüey for a long time. This notebook is a printed testimony to those legends that are told from one generation to the next, just like the legacy of traditions.
For my part, of all the traditions, the one I'm most proud of is the one about water from a tinajón (small pot of water). I don't know if it's real or not, but the truth is that anyone who delves into Camagüey's cultural heritage falls in love with it.

Un cordial saludo a los amigos de #hivebookclub, que gentilmente me acompañan. En reiteradas ocasiones he traído hasta ustedes cuadernos de poesía, pero el de hoy está enmarcado dentro de la narrativa y es un cuaderno entrañable para mí.
Se trata del libro de Roberto Mendez Martínez, Leyendas y Tradiciones del Camagüey.en cuyos textos su autor no utiliza a profundidad sus abundantes recursos lingüísticos y literarios pues pretende con él una comunicación más coloquial dicho por el propio autor en las palabras de contracubierta y cito: "Al escribirlo, no he pensado en los investigadores, sino en esas personas que tantas veces me han preguntado por los detalles más o menos fabulosos que alientan nuestro pasado"* _ fin de la cita.
Camagüey es un pueblo colmado de leyendas y tradiciones, en este cuaderno hay, distribuidas en una sola sección, quince relatos que aunque no son todos los que se cuentan popularmente, si estan los más relevantes.

El rapto de las principeñasdónde se cuenta como.piratas que invadían con bastante frecuencia, la ciudad, tomaron como rehenes un gran número de muchachas lugareñas.
O la de El Santo sepulcro, tradición que el pueblo mantiene viva en la actualidad, y se pone en práctica durante los festejos de San Juan.
Pero no cabe duda que la oscura historia de Dolores Rondón y su singular décima epitafio en el cementerio local es de las más conocidas por todos. Dice,la decima así;
Aquí Dolores Rondón finalizó su carrera, ven mortal y considera las grandezas cuáles son; el orgullo y presunción la opulencia y el poder, Todo llega a fenecer pues solo se inmortaliza el mal que se economiza y el bien que se puede hacer.
Roberto Mendez Martínez, es poeta, narrador, ensayista y critico de arte. Es hoy en día uno de los más relevantes intelectuales de nuestro país, ganador de numerosas distinciones y premios, fue el historiador de la ciudad de Camagüey por largo tiempo. Este cuaderno es un testigo impreso de esas leyendas que son contadas de una generación a otra al igual que el legado de las tradiciones.
Por mi parte de todas las tradiciones la que más me enorgullece es la referente al agua de tinajón, que no sé si sea real o no pero lo cierto es que quien se adentre en el acervo cultural del Camagüey se enamora de él. Hasta otro encuentro literario.
