Every aspect of our existence has boundaries. That is simply part of our natural condition. Our eyes, for example, can only perceive certain types of light. We can see visible light, but we cannot see ultraviolet or infrared rays without the help of special instruments.
Interestingly, certain creatures can. A dove, for instance, has been proven through scientific testing to see ultraviolet light. Experiments have shown beyond reasonable doubt that a dove’s eyes can detect what human eyes cannot.
This reminds us that everything about us, our strength, our senses, our abilities has limits. The only part of us that can stretch beyond what is safe or reasonable is our imagination. A person can imagine themselves to be superhuman, but acting on such thoughts can be dangerous. There was once a drug addict who imagined he was like Superman, jumped from the 22nd floor, and tragically died. His thoughts went beyond reality.
This is why, according to the Bible, God does not want us to think recklessly. If we follow God’s word, we cannot simply call ourselves “free thinkers” who entertain any thought we please. The Bible warns against this.
Romans 12:3 teaches: “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”
Our thoughts must be guided by humility, clarity, and simplicity. Biblical teaching urges us to let God’s wisdom and His word shape the way we think. We are not free to entertain every idea that comes to mind, and we must guard ourselves against harmful or evil thoughts
