Greetings everyone, I welcome you all to my blog. It's another great day to listen to the word of God by his servant Bro Eli Soriano.
Hearing But Not Listening to God's word
There is a clear distinction between simply hearing God’s Word and truly listening to it, understanding it, and applying it. Many people today hear Scripture being read, preached, or discussed, yet they never allow it to shape their lives. They are exposed to the truth of God constantly through sermons, conversations, and messages but instead of paying attention, they choose to ignore it. In doing so, they hear the sound, but they never receive the message. Hearing is natural, but listening requires intention, humility, and obedience.
Psalm 115:4:8 describes idols made by human hands, objects of silver and gold that have mouths but cannot speak, ears but cannot hear, eyes but cannot see, and feet but cannot walk. Scripture teaches that those who worship such idols become like them spiritually blind, deaf, and unable to act in truth. This same principle applies to people who hear God’s Word without responding to it. They have ears, but they do not truly hear. Their hearts remain unmoved, and their lives show no change. In this generation, many chase after man-made idols whether fame, wealth, possessions, or personal desires while ignoring the living Word of God.
Acts 17:29 reminds us that we are God’s creation, His offspring, and therefore should not lower ourselves to worship anything crafted by human imagination or skill. If we belong to Him, then His voice deserves our full attention not casual hearing, but genuine listening that leads to action.
According to the II Corinthians 4:4 say, “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
Let us not be like those who merely listen without transformation. Instead, let us receive God’s Word with open hearts, meditate on it, and live by it. True obedience begins when hearing turns into understanding, and understanding turns into action.
