According to Bro. Eli’s biblical teachings, the Sabbath day mentioned in Scripture is not the seventh day as traditionally observed, but a different day altogether.
Apostle Paul, when speaking to the original Sabbath-keeping Hebrews, explained that the Sabbath taught by Moses and Joshua was not the same as the “another day” he referred to in his teachings. This is supported by Hebrews 4:8, which says: “For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.” This verse shows that Paul was presenting a different day of rest from the one the Hebrews were accustomed to under the law of Moses.
Furthermore, Jesus Himself did not practice the Sabbath in the way Moses and Joshua taught it. In John 5:16–18, the Jews persecuted Jesus because He performed works on the Sabbath. Jesus answered them, “My Father works until now, and I work.” Because of this, the Jews sought to kill Him believing He had broken the Sabbath and made Himself equal with God.
From these passages, it becomes clear that Jesus did not follow the traditional Sabbath observance, and this caused conflict with the Jews who misunderstood the Scriptures.
Bro. Eli also explains through the Scriptures that the original Sabbath observers no longer existed by the time Jesus came. This is emphasized in Hebrews 7:12: “For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.”
Since Jesus introduced a new priesthood, the law also had to change. The law given through Moses was replaced by the law of Christ.
In conclusion, because the priesthood transitioned from Moses to Jesus Christ, the law likewise changed. We are no longer under the Law of Moses but under the law of Christ, and that is the one we are now called to obey.
