Between Survival And Humanity.

I have not been around for long but I've been around for a while, and I can vividly remember that the world we live in, back then is full of people who chose their professions out of love. You see teachers teaching with passion, you business owners all doing their transactions and all in all honesty, doctors take their time to really care for their patients. But presently, it's not the same as it was back then, today it's all about making profits and humanity seems to hold a back seat.

Let me start with a hospital, have been there so I understand there's things, if you walk into a hospital today with a sick person, don't even think you will be attended too before you make payment, the first thing they tell you is to make a deposit of a certain amount before any treatment would begin. Go to schools and see how how the amount being paid as school fees isn't same with the quality of education given, they only care about the money you're paying, no more quality education. I don't know if it would be okay to mention this, but it's also a part of it....Churches, yes churches who were once all about saving souls and all are now being run as if a corporation, everything has now turned business and only profit-minded.

Now, can we actually blame this people, of a truth life has become tough and it's now survival of the fittest or smartest. The cost of living is nothing to write home about and everyone is doing just anything to keep being afloat. In today's world, your network now determines the kind of respect, connections, opportunities and relationships you get. And what will you hear people say, "passion doesn't pay bills, money does." So people now go into careers that promises some wealth instead of joy/peace. Yet, we can deny that we miss those times we render help to people without expecting anything in return, we can't deny that we miss those days when the smile on somebody's face makes us feel fulfilled.

To find our way back, first off, our mindset needs to change. No one says business ain't business, but then being business minded shouldn't stop us from being what we were first, humans. We should try our best to not milk people so as to get rich but to offer real values that change and improve the livelihood of others. A doctor can care well for his patient and still.make his money, a teacher can teach with all of his/her heart and still earn well. A balance is needed and that balance can only be achieved when we remember that people come first.

Also, the coming generation should be taught that success isn't just about acquiring wealth, but it also has a lot to do with ones impact and ones integrity. We should celebrate compassion, care, love and the likes the same way we celebrate wealth/riches. Society respects the rich and forget that it is the kind, caring and compassionate people that made our world a good and better place to live in.

There's absolutely nothing wrong in being business minded, it's good to think of sustainability, growth, profit and the likes, but it becomes a problem when we forget that we were human first.
