Nigeria: The Giant We Still Believe In.

Nigeria, the once upon a time, or let's jus say, the so-called Giant Of Africa. It still seems to be a name we take so much pride in, just that it feels more like a reminder of what we could be rather than what we actually are. Still, I can't deny that one of the things the world knows Nigeria for is our creativity and music. Various artist from Nigeria are making waves, the likes of Rema, Burna Boy, Awake, Terms and the likes, we see and hear how they kept on selling out stadiums and arenas of thousands of capacity all over.

They have helped bring our sound to the world stage, and one way or the other, we've been able to bring our struggles into the lyrics of music. Same goes with those in the movie industry, this movies tell our real stories, the everyday life of a Nigerian, the struggles, hustles and all, we now see a whole lot of our movies being streamed on big platforms, like Netflix. Today, no matter where you're or where you go, you will definitely find something or a trace of Nigeria there.

And if we were to talk about the other side too, we can't deny that the would also knows us for Internet fraud, insecurity and corruption. It's a stain on us and it's one that won't really get washed off that easily. And it's the truth, when any foreigner today hear anything "Nigeria" what comes to their mind is any of those, their minds go straight to the loss of lives and properties here, their minds go straight to rigged elections and scam. And we can't deny that some of these things we are known for is a fact, it's sad. We live in a country that's so deep in injustice and greed, where the law is meant only for some set of people while some seems to be above it. Our politicians keeps on getting richer while the citizens struggle to survive, it's sad to see that at this age we still complain of unstable power supply, good roads, good health facilities and the likes. I am not saying everyone of us is bad or corrupt, no. Most of us are just trying what we could to survive, we find ourselves studying while still engaging in multiple jobs just so to stay afloat.

But then, it's like the world ain't seeing that part of us, and the effect it's been having on us is nothing to write home about. Not everyone of us is a scam. Even Nigerians abroad are being looked at with suspicion, even those who engage in honest businesses suffer because of the sins of a few. And that didn't just affect us on the world stage alone, internally it is affecting, it happens between the government and it's people, it's happening between citizens and citizens, we've become more skeptical and are always expecting things to take another turn when we were supposed to trust, work hand in hand and keep our hopes high.

Despite all, we can still say we are the most resilient people on earth, we laugh, dance, joke, eat, party and all even in chaos and darkness while still believing that one day, things will change for the better. The world may know us as a country that's not safe to live in and corrupted, but we know ourselves for our strength and courage, we know ourselves for being able to smile through whatever situations we find ourselves, we still navigate our ways through no matter what.

No country is perfect, Nigeria is not perfect, we are flawed, but then we keep going, we are alive, we keep keeping our heads high and we are still full of compassion and love. And for every bad story told about Nigeria, believe me, there are still a million good ones waiting to be heard.
