Well, I don't know if to apologize in advance for this, as it may be the most loved app for some, but for me, not at all. Would you like to guess which app that is, who knows,.you might just be right. I ain't coming for this particular app because I hate fun or trend's, not at all, but then the reason is simply because one, I hardly make use of it and secondly is because in-between the various challenges and all done on it, it appears that people have now forgotten how to actually think.
So, if I had the power to bam a social media app, you've guess right, it will definitely be Tiktok. I have never really been a fan even from the onset, I remember how my cousin sister back then would stay glued to her phone for ours and giggling almost every five seconds. If I ask her to help with something, or mum calls her, even if she's the one that wants to do something for herself, she would just ask for a minute, "let me watch this one last video please." Am believe you me, that one video would lead into more videos for the next three to four hours. Now, she's been on doing streaks for a long time now, I don't know if they get paid for that. She once asked me to be her streak partner, and when I asked what that was, when she explained, I just knew I wasn't the best person for it.
I think I can say it was Tiktok that turned attention into a currency, and now we have it, everyone wants to trend, everyone wants to be known for just anything, there was a day I wan on there and saw a lady, I think her name was related to sand something and I was like....what's this, believe me she has a whole lot of followers, she's always playing and bathing herself up with sand. Common....how did we get here? There's a particular lady I watched crying about heartbreak, her bf and the likes, and the following day, I saw her advertising her ware ....shirts, trousers and all, and guess what, she still has that same teary eyes, I don't really seems to understand...was that all in the name of attracting people just so to sell.
The most scary part is how fast it tends to shape people, all.of those things that add up together to make us human, now feels outdated, people no longer read posts cause they feel it's too long, they feel it's short, just 30seconds video, but then they find themselves still glued to that same screen for the next few hours. Another part is, even when you see someone talking about a serious topic/issue, maybe loss, heartbreak and the likes, you still find them playing music or using some of these short video slangs in-between. Like, explain this thing to me, are you entertaining us or you're really going through pain.
Maybe without Tiktok, these younger ones would think of a real profession to go into. I know Tiktok brings creativity, fun and joy for some, but we can't also deny the obvious fact that we no longer live moments, we now record them for strangers. Some don't even have a life outside of it, you see the way people do recording all of their daily activities, no privacy, no nothing.
And believe me, if it were possible for me to ban it, I will gladly do. Not out of resentment or anger, but out of love. The world we are in really needs to be sensitized and breathe again. We should understand that there are some memories and moments that are only meant to be lived, not posted for the whole wide world. So, it's a big yes, Tiktok would go.
