So, if I were a spice, what do you think I would go for. Thinking this through a thousand times and I couldn't come up with something better than ginger. Aside the fact that it is loved by quiet a number of people, it has it's way of leaving a mark, no matter when and where. Yes ginger burns, yes it heals, yes it has it's own aftertaste and yes....That is me.
While growing up, we always have ginger in my house, you can hardly find a house that wouldn't have it. A lot of times, most especially when we are ill, she would grate it together with pepper for a soup for us. Ginger does goes far. You can mix ginger together with honey, it helps for cough. Slices of ginger could be added to tea as well. In all and every of it's for, it carries both fire and comfort. And, that's how my personality works too. I can be very strong and sharp if life demands that I am, and I can be very calm, cool and warm that makes other feel better.
Well, thinking back at the time when I was very sick, I believe ginger describes my journey better than any other thing. We all know illness is never a good or sweet thing, it burns, it test once patience, and at times it makes one bitter. And that was all I went through. A lot of times I feel my body betraying me, a lot of times I doubted if I can keep on going, it was a period of going through the fire. But then, just like ginger going into hot water, I found strength therein in that hotness. Today, I can boldly say that the pain didn't destroy me, rather it drew courage, resilience and a kind of deep healing out of me.
And here you have it, ginger. Aside the fact that you can taste it, you can definitely feel it working. It warms you, it clears and gives a kind of push to keep on going. And I very much like to believe I do same for people too. I have a lot of people who come to me with heavy hearts and often leave feeling a lighter and better. I do post inspirational and motivational things too, and it's going a long way tmin keeping someone going. Not to mention the various little charity stuffs I do, most times anonymously. Even though most of them fine know me, of course they remember someone at a time relieved them of something.
Well, I may not be the best, goodest, brightest, loudest, and most loveable spice in the shelf, but when you need something real, you can't help but turn to me. Because.... Ginger works.
Also, we can't deny the fact that Ginger is versatile. And that exactly mirrors my life. It helps in a lot of ways, you can use ginger to spice up rice, you can use it while making zobo and kunu, it brings a different type of taste and comfort when added to tea. You can definitely know when ginger is added to something. It's just so obvious, same way I believe my impact has been going a long way to help and it's obvious. Undeniably. I have learned to adapt, today am helping out at an event, tomorrow am writing, then next day you see me reaching out to people and encouraging them. And just like ginger never loses its essence no matter where and where it is being used, I try to stay true to myself no matter where and when.
Of a truth, some prefer the good easy sweetness of sugar, but then that's them, I appreciate them for them, I'm just different. I'm ginger, even though it's not always easy to swallow, and it burns, but you can deny the fact that it leaves you stronger. That is my story, it's not smooth but then it is meaningful. I've walked through the fire and I came out sharing warmth.
So, if life were to be a pot of soup, I would be ginger. And my reason isn't far fetched. I would be sharp enough to wake you and keep you going, strong enough to heal you and unforgettable once you taste me.
