Hola amigos de MundoHispano, espero que todos se encuentren bien, yo estoy encantada con esta iniciativa porque para mí, la arepa es mucho más que una comida; es un ritual de familia que nos ha acompañado desde el amanecer hasta el anochecer. Desayunar con una arepita caliente era combustible para el colegio, cenar con arepas o comerse una arepa después de una rumba es un clásico en Venezuela, la arepa nos acompaña en todo momento y lugar.
Recuerdo las mañanas en las que, apenas despertaba y cruzaba la puerta, ya me esperaba una arepita con jamón y queso. Mi mamá o mi abuela siempre tenían el café recién colado y unas arepas puestas en la mesa. Era el pequeño detalle que hacía que el día empezara con energía y calor de hogar: la masa suave por dentro y tostadas por fuera me encantaba desde el primer bocado. Los fines de semana, cuando pasaba unos días con mi abuela ella me dejaba comerme la masa cruda y me daba un poquito de masa para preparar una mini arepa que colocaba en el budare.
Si llegaba alguna persona extranjera de visita a la casa , lo primero que lo invitábamos a probar eran las arepas y me causaba gracia que algunos aunque tenían una variedad de rellenos como perico, caraotas, queso, pollo querían colocarle miel o mermelada como si fuese una panqueca o una tostada.
Al hablar de rellenos mis favoritos, sin duda; jamón y queso amarillo, perico con queso o carne mechada y queso. Y si la combinas con un poco de nata o crema de leche quedan deliciosas. En mi familia hay una tradición y es que el 25 de diciembre, el desayuno se transforma en una celebración diferente. Desayunamos una arepa con pernil, queso y si sobra un poco de ensalada de gallina muchísimo mejor. El pernil jugoso, se convierte en el relleno estrella que cierra la noche y abre el día con una mezcla de gratitud y alegría por otra navidad juntos, mientras conversamos sobre la cena de noche buena, nos reímos de los chistes y anécdotas de la noche anterior. Para mí, es un clásico desayuno de Navidad que no cambiaría por nada.
La arepa para mi más que un alimento es: familia, tradición, nos ha acompañado en todas las etapas de nuestra vida el colegio, la universidad y celebraciones especiales.

I am delighted with this initiative because, for me, the arepa is much more than just food; it is a family ritual that has accompanied us from dawn to dusk. Eating a hot arepa for breakfast was fuel for school, having arepas for dinner or eating an arepa after a party is a classic in Venezuela. Arepas accompany us at all times and in all places.
I remember mornings when I would wake up and walk through the door to find a little arepa with ham and cheese waiting for me. My mom or grandmother always had freshly brewed coffee and arepas on the table. It was the little detail that made the day start with energy and the warmth of home: soft on the inside and toasted on the outside, I loved them from the first bite. On weekends, when I spent a few days with my grandmother, she would let me eat the raw dough and give me a little bit to make a mini arepa that I would place on the budare.
If a visitor came to the house, the first thing we invited them to try was arepas, and I found it funny that some people, even though there was a variety of fillings such as perico, beans, cheese, and chicken, wanted to put honey or jam on them as if they were pancakes or toast.
When it comes to fillings, my favorites are definitely ham and yellow cheese, perico with cheese, or shredded beef and cheese. And if you combine them with a little cream or milk cream, they are delicious. In my family, there is a tradition that on December 25, breakfast becomes a different celebration. We have arepas with ham, cheese, and if there's any chicken salad left over, even better. The juicy ham becomes the star filling that closes the night and opens the day with a mixture of gratitude and joy for another Christmas together, as we talk about Christmas Eve dinner and laugh at the jokes and anecdotes from the night before. For me, it's a classic Christmas breakfast that I wouldn't trade for anything.
For me, arepas are more than just food: they are family and tradition. They have accompanied us through all stages of our lives, from school to college to special celebrations.
