Hello everyone, how are you all today? i hope everyone is having a wonderful day. today i made a new digital portrait painting. This portrait painting is drawn in more of a cartoon style and i have to say i am loving the way it looks. i didn't really expect it to look good given how i approached this drawing, but seems like luck was on my side and it went pretty well.
This is the final drawing:
Below are some process shots of how this drawing was made and i will explain every step i took.
Process: Like every other drawing i started with a sketch. i didn't need to use the loomis circle method for this drawing, because there was clearly a better way which was with parallal lines. i made three lines, for the bottom of the eyes, the bottom of the nose and the lips, you can't see them because i probably have erased some of it. i tried to put as little details and as little brush stroke as possible for me, that way the sketch would stay clean for me to color.
After finishing the sketch i began the coloring process. a bluish color seemed close enough and so thats what i chose. added a little bit of light skin color there as well.
and then i started working on the hair because like my few past drawings i would like to draw the hair on one layer, so i will draw the hair all over without caring that its going over the face, because i will erase it.
see? After erasing the excess hair it doesn't look so bad, and in future coloring process i don't have worry about going back and forth between layers when working on the hair.
now time to put down some darker colors in the usual places. as you can see they are the eye socket underneath the nose the lips and some underneath the chin.
i chose a warmer color for the below chin shadow because of the cool light warm shadow principle.
blue is sort of cool color and red is warm and thus the color choice was made i think.
I put down some background color so i can see the skin and drawing properly against a color.
this helps choose better colors.
I blended some of the shadow shapes at this point like mostly in the eye area.
At this point i worked on the details of the eye area. placing highlights on eye is always my favorite part.
i tried this new thing where the pupil does not completely touch the bottom black line of the eye and i have to say, it kind of look really good.
maybe i will do this more in the future. Its not much just an extra white line after the pupil has been drawn.
Oh, and i also drew the ear at this point. next i will work a little bit on the hair.
At first i wanted to use that flowy brush for the hair because i have used it in some of my drawings which turned out pretty good, but then decided to draw with my hair brush that i made myself watching a youtube tutorial.
I made some final adjustments, like drawing that earing and putting down some random lines on the clothing part because why not? and after that the drawing looked finished enough and i was happy with the result.
This is the Reference image i used for this drawing. let me know your thoughts about my drawing in the comment section below.
