In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Tha Shiznit from the legendary hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg.
Av. Alcorta: Gustavo Cerati
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Av. Alcorta from the legendary argentine artist Gustavo Cerati.
Today I'm going to talk about one of the artists who, over time, became one of my all-time favorites, second only to the genius of Charly Garcia. The truth is that ever since I first listened carefully to his songs as a solo artist, it was a turning point for me.
As I have mentioned several times, I have been strongly influenced at home by Argentine rock music, mainly by artists from the 80s and 90s such as Charly Garcia, Spinetta, Calamaro, and others. So, since I was a kid, I have always liked rock music in Spanish, even though I was not a fervent fan and was going through a bad phase with Reggaeton at the time.
Soda Stereo has been the most important band to come out of Argentina. It has been very successful throughout the Spanish-speaking American region. It is a band that transcends genres, so it is normal that people who never listen to rock will always know one or two of Soda Stereo's most iconic songs. Let's say it is “national heritage.” Despite their fame, I haven't been much of a fan of the band, other than casually listening to a song every now and then.
Everything changed about three years ago when I was talking to a friend with whom I played Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Roleplay, and I was curious because he had chosen the nickname “Siempre es hoy” (It's Always Today). I ended up finding out that it was an album by Cerati, and he revealed his fanaticism for him to me, so he practically forced me to listen to the whole album. My first impression was one of amazement. I was completely unfamiliar with many of those songs, despite their popularity, and I was loving them, especially the album's title track, “Cosas Imposibles.”

After listening to one of her most successful solo albums, I didn't hesitate to continue exploring her entire musical repertoire. If I remember correctly, the second album I listened to was his most famous solo album: Ahi vamos, released in 2006. I found some really good songs, such as La Excepción, Adiós, Me Quedo Aqui, Lago En El Cielo, and Crimen (the most famous).
I then moved on to the last album he released as a solo artist, shortly before falling into a coma and passing away a few years later: Fuerza Natural. I ended up really liking the album, with songs such as Deja Vu, Magia, Desastre, Rapto, and Cactús standing out, the latter becoming my favorite on the album.
So I only had one of his most iconic albums left, the one that started it all: Amor Amarillo. This album was released while Gustavo Cerati was still part of Soda Stereo, unlike his other solo works that came after the band broke up. I ended up liking it quite a bit, as it brings together truly beautiful songs such as “Amor Amarillo,” ‘Lisa’ (my favorite), “Te Llevo Para Que Me Lleves,” “Bajan,” and my choice for today, “Av Alcorta.”
