In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is What's Up of the american band 4 Non Blondes.
Drivin' My Life Away: Eddie Rabbitt
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Drivin' My Life Away of the artist Eddie Rabit.
I discovered today's artist thanks to the influence of video games. As I always mention, games are quite important when it comes to sharing music with their players. This is how many people have discovered songs from other eras or alternative artists that they might never have heard otherwise. It has also happened to me on several occasions with series and movies, where I discovered Scandinavian musicians who, living in Argentina, would have been very difficult to find through other means.
About ten years ago, I discovered SAMP (San Andreas Multiplayer) thanks to a recommendation from my stepbrother's cousin to play a mode called Roleplay. I ended up loving the mode, so I became quite addicted to multiplayer. In that format, there was a truck driver job, where you had to make several deliveries in the main cities of the game to earn extra money.
It was during those trips that I listened carefully to the game's radio stations, which always had a wide variety of music, including country, hip-hop, international rock, pop, “electro,” and more. The station I enjoyed the most was K-Rose, a radio station that plays several country hits.
Thanks to K-Rose, I discovered the artist Eddie Rabbit through his song I Love a Rainy Night (a great song). That led me to search for more songs by the artist, and I found his second most famous song, Drivin'.
Eddie Rabbitt (Edward Thomas Rabbitt) was an American singer considered one of the first country artists to fuse the genre with pop and rock influences, incorporating innovative elements such as the use of synthesizers.
During his musical career, he had several hits, including “Drinkin' My Baby,” “Every Which Way But Loose,” “I Love a Rainy Night,” and “Drivin' My Life Away.”
“Drivin' My Life Away” was released in 1980 and became one of the most famous songs of the genre, reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot Country chart. The song has almost 70 million plays on Spotify, while on YouTube it has 33 million.
