In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Rock and Roll All Nite from the legendary rock band Kiss.
El Paso: Marty Robbins
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is El Paso from the iconic american artist Marty Robbins.
On this occasion, to change things up a bit from what I've been posting lately, we're going to talk about some old music for someone my age, specifically songs from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
I wasn't born listening to that music, nor was I influenced by my family. So how did I discover this type of music? It's all thanks to the influence of video games, mainly a series that has become one of my all-time favorites because of its incredible story and setting.
The video game series I'm talking about is called Fallout. I have had the opportunity to play several of its installments, such as Fallout 3, New Vegas, 4, and 76, which were the last ones released on the market. I am fascinated by the hypothetical scenario in which the Cold War never ended, where the world continued to advance technologically according to the vision of that era, preserving one of its main aspects: its incredible music.
Thanks to this influence, I have discovered many artists such as Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra, The Ink Spots, Tex Beneke, Peggy Lee, and Marty Robbins. I discovered the latter thanks to his performance of the song “Big Iron,” one of my favorites from New Vegas. That led me to research his career a little more and come across the song I have selected for today: El Paso.
Martin David Robinson—Marty Robbins—is one of the most important artists in American country music. In 1943, he enlisted in the Navy and, with so much free time on his hands, decided to devote himself to learning to play the guitar, realizing that his true calling was music.
