In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Rompecabezas de Amor from the argentine band Las Pastillas del Abuelo.
I wanna get high: Cypress Hill
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is I Wanna Get High from the legendary hip-hop band Cypress Hill.
For many years now, I have been quite fond of a very popular genre of music: hip-hop. It all started during my teenage years, when I used to play with a group of friends I had made online in the multiplayer mode of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. We played characters in a gang, so from time to time we would listen to music that a character in that situation would listen to.
During that time, I ended up discovering some major artists like Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, as well as more contemporary artists like Wiz Khalifa. However, my enthusiasm for the genre had not yet reached its peak. After watching a movie on Netflix, I ended up discovering one of the most glorious bands of the genre, N.W.A. That led me to continue exploring more artists and groups of the genre.
Thanks to this, I discovered artists such as Nas, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., 50 Cent, MC Eiht, Busta Rhymes, as well as iconic groups such as Compton's Most Wanted, Wu-Tang Clan, and Westside Connection. But if there's one group whose style I really loved after hearing them for the first time, it's the legendary band Cypress Hill. Currently, they are my favorite hip-hop group because I love the instrumental and Latin rhythms in all their songs. Another thing I can highlight is the voices of their two main artists, Sen Dog and B-Real, who give the group a unique touch.
Cypress Hill has a large repertoire of musical works, which explains how I ended up with more than fifty songs from the group on my Spotify “likes” list (some of them are covers of songs in English translated into Spanish that I really liked).
One of my favorite Cypress songs is definitely “I Wanna Get High,” which is why I ended up choosing it for today's selection.

Cypress Hill is a hip-hop band made up of several Latino members who lived in the United States. Its main members were rapper Louis Freese (B-Real), Cuban rapper Senén Reyes (Sen Dog), producer Lawrence Muggerud (DJ Muggs), and Ulpiano Sergio Reyes (Mellow Man Ace). The idea for the group came about under the influence of the first American rap artists who were beginning to gain popularity, but there was still no representative for the Latino community.
I Wanna Get High was released in 1993 for the band's second album, Black Sunday. This was the group's biggest album because it featured classics such as Insane in the Brain, Hits From The Bong, When the Shit Goes Down, and today's song of my choice.
