Good evening everyone!
In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Yegua of the argentine band Babasonicos.
Open Your Eyes: Surfbort
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Open Your Eyes of the american band Surfbort.
In today's case, my choice is heavily influenced by the world of video games. This isn't the first time I've highlighted how important video games are in influencing the masses and introducing them to music they wouldn't otherwise have heard. I can give examples from the FIFA series, Grand Theft Auto, The Witcher, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Fallout, and Bloodborne. Some made music for their own games, while others promoted artists who were not so well known or from another era that is not the player's generation, as is the case with Fallout.
Open Your Eyes by Surfbort is not related to any of the games I mentioned before, as I discovered it in one of the multiplayer games I have spent the most hours playing in my life: Rocket League. It has always been known for having pretty good electronic music in its menu and loading screens. However, music from other genres began to appear for one of the new mechanics that had been added at the time: goal celebration songs.
That's how I discovered several songs: from the duo Koven, to What's Up by 4 Non Blondes, to my choice today, Open Your Eyes by Surfbort, a song that was selected by none other than Linda Perry, former member of 4-Non-Blondes.

Surfbort is an American band founded in 2014 by vocalist Dani Miller, drummer Sean Powell, guitarist Alex Kilgore, guitarist Matt Picola, and bassist Nick Arnold. In their songs, the group attempts to replicate the punk/rock sound of the 1980s.
Open Your Eyes became one of the band's biggest hits, as in addition to being successful nationally, it achieved international recognition after being added to a playlist by artist Linda Perry in the Epic Games video game Rocket League. The song has 350,000 plays on Spotify and 370,000 on YouTube.
