In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Té para tres from the legendary artists Luis Alberto Spinneta and Gustavo Cerati.
Yegua: Babasonicos
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Yegua from the argentine band Babasonicos.
When I was around 11 or 12 years old, I started listening to modern Argentine rock, at least from the 2000s onwards. During that time, I ended up discovering many rock bands that I ended up loving, such as Attaque 77, Intoxicados, Los Piojos, Patricio Rey y los Redondidtos de Ricota, Ciro y los Persas, and Las Pastillas del Abuelo.
Despite growing up surrounded by Argentine rock from the 70s to the 90s thanks to the influence of the music my mother listened to in her youth, at that time I still didn't give it the importance it really deserved. This was also partly because I was able to get all the songs I listened to at that time thanks to the launch of the Spotify platform.
In its first updates, there were no recommendations for the user's own playlists, so I had to search for playlists created by the community or the Spotify team in Latin America. That's how I ended up discovering quite a few Argentine rock hits. Thanks to that, I discovered one of my favorite modern Argentine rock bands, Babasonicos.
Babasonicos has some of my favorite modern rock songs. The truth is that it's a band with a very good track record and several musical works that were an absolute success in Argentina and other Spanish-speaking neighboring countries. For today, I've selected my favorite song by the band: Yegua.
Babasonicos is one of the most important bands in the history of Argentine alternative rock. It was formed in 1991 and consisted of vocalist Adrian Dargelos, guitarist Diego Rodriguez, guitarist Mariano Roger, keyboardist Diego Tuñon, and bassist Gabriel Manelli.
The group's first two albums had a few good songs, but they failed to make an impact on the Argentine music market. However, their first masterpiece would arrive ten years after the band was founded with the album Jessico. This album featured songs such as El Loco, Delectrico, Fizz, and Los Calientes, which established Babasonicos in the Argentine music scene.
Yegua is one of the biggest hits Babasonicos has released to date. It was released in 2005 for the album Anoche, which featured other hits such as Carismatico, Puesto, and El Colmo.
