When I was a young boy, growing up in a Yoruba home, there was a saying we often heard: “Ala sì ẹ re” which means “dreams are foolish.” We were made to believe that whatever we dreamed about was just a dream, nothing more.

While growing up, I used to believe that dreams were really stupid. But as time went on, I started to question it our dreams were really that foolish, or had we just been made to think so?
The older I became, the more I started to notice something strange about dreams. Sometimes, what I dream about would later happen in real life maybe not exactly as I dreamt it but closely enough to make me wonder you know the anxiety stuff! Sometimes dreams also come like messages, warning me or preparing me for something I am yet to understand. It made me realize dreams are not as stupid as I was told.
I now believe that dreams are a way our mind and spirit communicate. They can reflect our fears, hopes, and hidden thoughts. Sometimes they come from our imagination and it could also be a hidden place within us. Dreams remind us even when we sleep a part of us is still awake exploring possibilities, warning us, or guiding us.
So the question remains why do we dream? We dream because things we can't see physically reflect to us like a mirror in our sleep reminding us, showing us what it would be and how to go about it. It's part of us.
Dreams are like a revelation being shown unto us of what is to come or yet to come it is left to us on how we interpret it. Things our eyes are not meant to see can be seen in our sleep it beautiful and sometimes it hurt it all part of what makes us human.
