Even though it's now the middle of autumn and the days are getting shorter and shorter and the weather is unfortunately getting worse and worse, on nice days it's still fun to be outdoors. And although you might think that harvest time should be slowly coming to an end, you'll always be proven wrong.
The rice fields may now lie fallow and wait for next year, but when it comes to vegetables, the situation is quite different. As I have just discovered once again, there is still a lot growing in the fields outside our town, and when the weather is nice and the sun is shining, it is still a lot of fun to watch.
Well, of course, not much happens while you're watching, but I was in such a good mood that day that I spontaneously pulled my car over to the side of the road on the way back and parked there. Then I took a short walk and simply enjoyed what I saw there.
The long rows of spring onions, the lush green cabbage, and the other vegetable in the field made the smile on my face grow even wider.
Yes, it's far from over. Now is the time for leafy vegetables such as cabbage and spinach, and the radishes too can grow a little more. Luckily, this means we will hopefully continue to have fresh vegetables on our plates in the coming weeks.
And I will continue to enjoy the sight of the wonderful gardens and fields on my drives. Until the snow covers everything in a thick white blanket. But hopefully that won't happen for a while yet...

Auch wenn es nun dickster Herbst ist und die Tage immer kürzer und das Wetter leider immer schlechter wird, macht es an schönen Tagen immer noch Spaß, draußen unterwegs zu sein. Und obowhl man denken mag, dass die Erntezeit ja nun so langsam vorbei seil sollte, wird man dort immer wieder eines Besseren belehrt.
Die Reisfelder mögen nun zwar brachliegen und auf das nächste Jahr warten, aber in Sachen Gemüse sieht es ganz anders aus. Wie ich gerade erst wieder feststellen durfte, wächst auf den Feldern vor unserer Stadt noch eine ganze Menge, und es macht bei schönen Wetter und Sonnenschein auch weiterhin viel Spaß, dem zuzuschauen.
Nun ja, während man so sieht, passiert natürlich nicht ganz so viel, aber an jenem Tag war ich in so guter Stimmung, dass ich auf dem Rückweg mein Auto ganz spontan an den Straßenrand steuerte und dort abstellte. Und dann lief ich eine ganz kleine Runde und freute mich einfach über das, was ich dort zu sehen bekam.
Die langen Reihen mit den Lauchzwiebeln, der grüne üppige Kohl und auch die anderen Beet sorgten dafür, dass das Lächeln in meinem Mund noch ein wenig größer wurde.
Jawohl es ist noch lange nicht vorbei, nun ist die Zeit für Blattgemüse, wie Kohl und Spinat, und auch der Rettich darf noch ein wenig weiterwachsen. Zum Glück, so wird es hoffentlich auch in den nächsten Wochen weiterhin frisches Gemüse bei uns auf dem Teller geben.
Und ich werde bei meinen Fahrten mich weiterhin an dem Anblick der wunderbaren Beete und Felder erfreuen dürfen. Bis dann demnächst der Schnee das ganze unter einer dicken weißen Decke verschwinden lassen wird. Aber bis dahin wird es hoffentlich noch ein wenig dauern...
