Hello my friends, today I'm joining our friend @tattoodjay's challenge to share with you a walk that led me to a very special place.
A few days ago, I shared the story of the House of Green Tiles in Miramar, Havana in this [post](https://peakd.com/hive-178265/@mayramalu/visiting-the-gem-of-miramar-the-house-of-green-tiles-engesp). A unique mansion in Cuba that, after falling into disrepair, was splendidly restored to its former glory in 2010 thanks to meticulous restoration work. Today I want to take you to a space adjacent to it, a place that, although not part of the original design of the house, has become its perfect complement: The French Garden.
My day began with a pleasant walk from Vedado. For those who are not familiar with the area, getting to Miramar from there is quite an experience. I decided to cross the tunnel on the pedestrian walkway, a short route that always marks the transition between two distinct atmospheres of the city.
At the exit, literally on the next block, stands the now familiar silhouette of the House of Green Tiles.
My goal today wasn't to go inside the house (I had already done that on my previous visit), but to go directly to its garden. Upon arriving, I explained my intention to the guide, who, with a smile, gave me permission to enter.
The French garden is characterized by its geometry, where symmetry is very important. Everything is calculated to create a sense of balance and harmony. There is usually a central axis perpendicular to the facade of the main building, and this garden is no exception. From the terrace of the house, this design can be perfectly appreciated, a view that alone justifies the visit.
Water is another fundamental element in this style, intended to reflect the sky. The original design of the garden included a water feature, a fountain which, unfortunately, was dry on the day of my visit. Although its absence is noticeable, it doesn't detract from the overall elegance of the place. It is a detail that, I hope, can be restored soon to give the garden back that key element of its character.
But what truly brings this garden to life and gives it character are the sculptures that adorn it. The one that captivated me most, without a doubt, is the sculpture **"Pas de deux" (or The Dancers)**, by the artist Aramís Jústiz Perera, created in 2010. Carved in marble, it depicts a pair of dancers in a moment of grace and incredible connection.
And here's a curious detail that many might not notice: the marble of the female figure has a soft pink hue. But this color is subtle, almost a secret. The guide explained to me that this pink only becomes visible on cloudy days or after the rain has dampened the stone. When the sun shines brightly, as it did during my visit, the marble appears white. It's as if the sculpture holds a little surprise for the gray days.
The benches in the garden are also small sculptures, with whimsical shapes that invite relaxation.
Another fascinating piece: a sculpture that resembles a garden table set, also carved in marble. The guide told me it was created by a French artist, which adds an international touch of authenticity to the place.
On a side wall, there is a ceramic mural with Royal Palms made of bronze sheets, by Luis Alberto Rodríguez, which provides a visual contrast to its surroundings.
But there was another piece that caught my attention and that also seemed familiar to me: a tulip made of metal and concrete. It is a delicate yet sturdy piece. In its petals we can see a reflection of its surroundings. Its creator, Juan Narciso Quintanilla, titled it "Luisa," in honor of Luisa Catalina, the last owner of the mansion.
This sculpture reminded me a lot of another one called "Natura" which is located in the Old Square and is much larger. I couldn't resist doing a little research, and indeed, my intuition was right: both are creations by the same artist.
The French Garden at the House with Green Tiles is a place that enhances not only the property itself, but also the entire avenue, offering a touch of art and nature to everyone who passes by.
If you have the opportunity to visit Miramar, don't just admire the garden from the street. Go inside, sit on one of the pink benches, and let yourself be enveloped by the tranquility it offers. It's an experience well worth having.

**Una caminata para encontrarme con el Jardín Francés**
Hola mis amigos, hoy me uno al reto de nuestro amigo @tattoodjay para compartirles una caminata que me llevó hacia un lugar muy especial.
Hace unos días, les compartí la historia, en este [post](https://peakd.com/hive-178265/@mayramalu/visiting-the-gem-of-miramar-the-house-of-green-tiles-engesp), de la Casa de las Tejas Verdes, en Miramar, La Habana. Un palacete único en Cuba que, tras caer en el olvido, renació espléndidamente de sus ruinas en el 2010 gracias a un minucioso trabajo de restauración. Hoy quiero llevarles a un lugar anexo a ella, un espacio que, aunque no formaba parte del diseño original de la casa, se ha convertido en su complemento perfecto: el Jardín Francés.
Mi día comenzó con una caminata muy agradable desde Vedado. Para aquellos que no conocen la zona, llegar a Miramar desde aquí es toda una experiencia. Decidí cruzar el túnel por su pasarela peatonal, un recorrido corto pero que siempre marca la transición entre dos atmósferas distintas de la ciudad. A la salida, literalmente en la siguiente cuadra, se alza la ya familiar silueta de la Casa de las Tejas Verdes.
Mi objetivo hoy no era entrar a la casa (ya lo había hecho en mi visita anterior), sino dirigirme directamente a su jardín. Al llegar, le expliqué mi intención a la guía, quien con una sonrisa me dio permiso para pasar.
El jardín francés se caracteriza por su geometría, donde la simetría es muy importante. Todo está calculado para crear una sensación de equilibrio y armonía. Suele existir un eje central perpendicular a la fachada del edificio principal, y en este jardín no es la excepción. Desde la terraza de la casa se puede apreciar perfectamente este diseño, una vista que de por sí ya justifica la visita.
El agua es otro elemento fundamental en este estilo, destinado a reflejar el cielo. En el diseño original del jardín hay un espejo de agua, una fuente que, lamentablemente, el día de mi visita se encontraba seca. Aunque su ausencia se nota, no logra opacar la elegancia general del lugar. Es un detalle que, espero, pueda ser restaurado pronto para devolverle al jardín ese elemento clave de su personalidad.
Pero lo que realmente le da vida y carácter a este jardín son las obras escultóricas que están presentes. La que más me cautivó, sin duda, es la escultura **"Pas de deux" (o Los Danzantes)**, del artista Aramís Jústiz Perera, creada en el 2010. Tallada en mármol, representa a una pareja de bailarines en un momento de gracia y conexión increíble.
Y aquí viene un detalle curioso que quizás muchos no notan: el mármol de la figura femenina tiene una suave tonalidad rosada. Pero este color es tímido, casi un secreto. La guía me explicó que este rosado solo se revela cuando el día está nublado o después de que la lluvia ha mojado la piedra.
Cuando el sol brilla con toda su fuerza, como lo hizo durante mi visita, el mármol parece blanco. Es como si la escultura guardara una pequeña sorpresa para los días grises.
Los bancos del jardín son también pequeñas esculturas, con formas caprichosas que invitan al descanso.
Otra pieza fascinante: una escultura que se asemeja a un juego de mesa de jardín, también esculpida en mármol. La guía me comentó que es obra de una artista francesa, lo que añade un toque de autenticidad internacional al lugar.
En una pared lateral, hay mural de cerámica con Palmas Reales realizadas con láminas de bronce, obra de Luis Alberto Rodríguez, aporta un contraste visual en su entorno.
Pero, hay otra obra que llamó mi atención y que, además, me resultó familiar: un tulipán elaborado en metal y concreto. Es una pieza delicada y a la vez sólida. En sus pétalos vemos reflejado su entorno. Su autor, Juan Narciso Quintanilla, la tituló "Luisa", en honor a Luisa Catalina, la última propietaria de la casona.
Esta escultura me recordaba muchísimo a otra llamada "Natura" que se encuentra en la Plaza Vieja y es mucho mayor. No pude evitar indagar un poco y, efectivamente, mi intuición no fallaba: ambas son creaciones del mismo artista.
El Jardín Francés de la Casa de las Tejas Verdes es un lugar que embellece no solo la propiedad, sino también la propia avenida, regalando un pedacito de arte y naturaleza a todo el que pasa por allí.
Si tienen la oportunidad de visitar Miramar, no se conformen con ver el jardín desde la avenida. Entren, siéntense en uno de sus bancos rosados y déjense llevar por la serenidad que brinda. Es una experiencia que vale la pena.
